If we do not have the resolve, and cling on to half-heardted measures, there will always be language gap and generational gap, there will always be "older people who cannot understand xyz language"
What do you mean by language gap?
I thought we already have ang mog english?

You misread my post.
I am saying yes, we need to learn dialects to communicate with the older generation who don't speak english or mandarin.
But ultimately, it should be the decision of the individual to learn or speak the dialects.
Not MOE or some people up there. ![]()

yes it is always must conform conform conform or u die a terrible ending
We are now in a transitional period and we are doing some sacrifices.
We are still doing the sacrifice, until a few more generations, when our children and grandchildren can have 1 common language and 1 common mother tongue.
We have to be brave and endure this little sacrifice for the benefit of our next generations.
If we do not have the resolve, and cling on to half-heardted measures, there will always be language gap and generational gap, there will always be "older people who cannot understand xyz language"
I don't agree with above views.

well i guess you have to pay a little to subscrib to listen to dialects, but think most people would subscribe to the sports ch 21 - 24 rather than watch the chinese programs, whether mandarin or dialects.

Some people like to use the analogy that since you are Chinese, you need to learn Mandarin.
What's the difference then by saying you are hokkien/hakka/cantonese but can't speak hokkien/hakka/cantonese? ![]()

shows in chinese is more popular than show in dialect. cause there is many many dialect, can't satisfy them all.

n u all watched the KARAOKE show hosted by 宗宪?
when chinese song, normal
when hokkien song, CUT
Get it comrade skythewood?

All those Hokkien/ Hakka/ Cantonese are basically dialects, of a same root language.
They are not a different separate language.
Thats why they are called "dialects"
Basically it is different pronounciation, accent, and so on, of the same root language.
In my opinion, now in the 21st century, it is better to standardize this root language, not to perpetuate the differering and competing dialects of this language.
This does not mean you will be reducing your cultural heritage, but only standardizing your heritage. It is basically the same thing. In fact, you are harmonizing and closing the gap with the other Chinese groups with their cultural heritage.
So that will be condusive to build a common identity rather than "Hokkien, Hakka, Cantonese"

faggot ah chia, that is not wipe out, that is adherence to limiting the broadcast to a few mainstream languages. at best, you can say suppress, not wipe out.
understand faggot ah chia?
do you deny that you can't show me one policy that aims to wipe out dialect?

That is an odd logic.
I think it is bullshit.
