Hi LordoftheLamers
I simply can't make sense of what you're saying.
"There was a change the year after I got PR in about 2005 or so."
What change was that? As far as I know, there has been no change at all in PR status vis-a-vis doing NS.
"I found that out because i've met a lot of foreign students at NUS who get automatic PR upon graduation in SIngapore, they are bonded to work in Singapore for 3 years ofcourse, but no army at all."
There has never been an army requirement for Ist-gen PRs. And as far as I know, the automatic PR has been sort of scrapped. Graduates don't get invited to become PR any longer. They have to apply on their own.
"If i had waited a year i could have gone on that scheme, it is new."
If you are referring to the three-year bond, it isn't something new. It has been around for quite some time.
"But the end result is still the same, foreigners that get the right to stay without seriously serving time. I feel its unfair and PR has little use now, i sweat for nothing."
You don't sound like a PR at all :)
The end result has ALWAYS been the same. Foreigners have never had to serve NS, but always get to enjoy their time in Singapore with a whole lot of privileges. And could you please elaborate on "PR has little use now" and why you have to "sweat for nothing"?
Most of us here are off springs of FT who were seeking a better lives
from China and India 100 years and 200 years ago.
If our forefathers were not kicked out back to South China Sea 100 years ago,
then why should we are so cruel to FT?
IF YOUR FOREFATHERS WERE KICKED BACK TO THEIR countries
of origin, then we cant hear your voices here in Singapore in 2009.
Foreign students that are required to work 3 years in Singapore are under Singapore government scholarships, which are given to hundreds, if I am not wrong, every year (I met one on a flight to Bangkok) and they are even given money to go home once or twice a year. I think it applies only to PRC citizens or at least the majority are given to PRC.
I don't think it has anything to do with PR status.
I think NS applies only for citizenship status.
The cursed despot and his cronies are giving away the money that Singaporeans pay and pay to PRC students

Back then, this place is not a country, but a british colony.
There was no bond to this place, our forefathers longed for India, China or whatever their country of origin.
Back then, it was level playing field.
But now, this place is supposed to be a country, yet it treats its foreigners better. That's why there is much distaste to these so called foreign talents.

The cursed despot is a baba seow. He is a chap cheng. He does not understand history and culture. All he knows is that he must take as much public money for himself as possible and make policies so that he and his cronies can take as much public money for themselves, even if it means selling our the country and the people.

Back then, All of them were foreigners from a countryless area(chinese land owned by foreigners or savaged by local warlords, indian land owned by British colonial masters) earning a living on a countryless land.
Once Singapore became a country, these foreigners became locals.
Now, All of these FTs are earning a living in our Country, do you think they will become locals, when they have their home country to fall back on?
As usual, Uncles like to talk about last time stories, nevetheless it shaped what it is today, perhaps by blaming the govt foreigner policies from our perspective is abit too narrow to consider as we tends to look at the present while others such as the govt may look into the future.
My next point will delight my Uncle Andrew a thousand times, after all, who voted the PAP to govt us? and when you voted them, haven't u consider their foreigner policies, did you questioned them directly during their presentation?? So, i believe most of our sg Uncles and Aunties are actually knocking themselve on the head to blame here and there but forget to blame themselve for voting the ruling party that created this mess.

If Sg is as good as one preach, why wouldnt they stay here for good? If they leave, doesnt it reduce the amount of FT in sg?
which ever way u look at it.... isnt it a win win when ratio is concern?

I would think that only the good ones (FTs) will leave, leaving the not-so-good ones here (FWs). The FWs will spread the word that S'pore is a good place to earn money and more FWs will flock to S'pore, reducing the pie for locals.
And when these FWs are willing to take a lower pay, companies will not consider locals at all. And even if they consider locals, they will expect locals to accept a lower pay.
FWs spoiling the market generally will generate distaste by the locals.
So many foreigners coming to Singapore to give Singaporeans job, by then the employment rate should be 110%. ![]()

Taking a cue from our PM? I'd like to see examples, rather than empty talk!

So were your once great great grand parent. They are FL, working as collies here in sg. NOT FT!!
If u are only as capable as a FL/FW, why shd anyone pay u more when they are getting the same output/result? If he is better and are willing to get a lower pay/ return, then shd you be thinking of how to better improve urself above them to command a pay higher then them then blaming it on them?
such is life. This is how the world work. If u wanna get more, you have to be better. One way or another.
These days there are no differences being PRC, Indian, Filipino or Singaporean, everybody is the same, we are all 3rd world countries. ![]()
The only difference are those that exist between democratic economies, where the government acts in the interest of it's citizens and protect their jobs from being seconded to low balling 3rd world country workers.
I thought our forefathers strive to build up Singapore to what it is today? Original shareholder's of a company should have reap more benefits than new shareholders, that's why original investors who bought Microsoft in the early 1980s reap the rewards of the company through many stock splits and stock price increases.
"Someone who invested $10,000 in the company's IPO would own a stake worth roughly close to $3,000,000 today. "
Link to purchase of Microsoft in 1980s
On the other hand, what have the locally born Singaporeans reaped? ![]()
Overpriced HDB public housing, NS, illusionary CPF with ever increasing extension of withdrawal age, seems like more liabilities than assets. ![]()
After all the blood and sweat laid down by our great grandparents, grandparents and parents, I think most Singaporeans would have felt betrayed only to have their jobs and country overtaken by foreigners. ![]()

Actually not, there was no country back then, so my grands were not foreign from last time point of view.
I'm not sure if you have been retrenched or out of work for a long time as a freshie, but you sound like Straits Times to me.
It's theoratically rosey, the picture you have painted.
In terms of jobscope, if both FW and local are similar, why would a boss want to pay extra when he/she could have paid lower?
Paying you extra because you upgraded yourselves? No way, I expect you to take up more responsibilities at your current pay with your additional skill-sets. No happy? The exit door is right over there.

I like your anology. But some people may point to you, our forebears toil blood and sweat for a better life for their next generation w/o asking more in return.
Therefore, we should have the mentality as our forebears.
Therefore, we should not complain.
Normally they get the Singaporeans to train the foreign talents, then once the foreign talents are qualified, they will get rid of the more expensive Singaporean. ![]()
Why do you think they encourage Singaporeans to upgrade?
To train the new foreign talents on a short term basis. ![]()
