There is a plan for a future MRT line from Woodlands to Changi, passing thru Simpang, Seletar Aviation Hub, Punggol and Pasir Ris.Simpang is planned as a future HDB town east of Yishun.
This planned MRT line is referred by many as the North Coast line. It is not officially announced, so no confirmation yet whether it will be build. If confirmed to build, it will only be completed after 2020.
After 2020
Thanks for the info.

Have you considered that with every change - the ride will cost more than doing it in one journey ?

The new Downtown Line seems to snake itself like a 'bus routing' to capture a largest possible passenger catchment area as possible without consideration for travel time from point to point.
Does it not look odd that the new Downtown Line should begin at Bukit Panjang and run southwards towards Beach Road, and instead of turning eastward - it loops towards Marina South, then westward towards Outram before taking on a "North-easterly" route that parallel the existing NE Line running along Serangoon-Punggol direction ?
It actually loops around to intersect itself between the proposed stops at "Little India" and "Bugis" to run towards Macpherson, and meet the EW Line at the Singapore Expo.
The "North-easterly" route is more like "north-east-east" and run between the NE Line and the East-West Line - where from the "Rochor" station it moves to serve the heavily populated along the "Jalan Besar-Kallang-Macpherson-Paya Lebar-Kaki Bukit-Bedok Reservoir" corridor.
Anyone from the Bukit Panjang station wishing to travel to the other end - that stop as tthe Singapore Expo - will be require an intermediate change at a connecting station, or ride the entire journey along a loop circuit.
The MRT is another revenue collecting system for the Government where it prides itself in generating revenue surplus not from any export services but from reaping in the money from Singaporean pockets.
Another service that locks Singaporeans already so dependent on the Government for a wide variety of essential and non-essential services that continue to generate profits for the Government.
No wonder it does not blink when US$100 Billion is lost in some foreign adventures - as there are more in the bigger picture and over the longer term where it comes from.
Errr, isn't the whole point is to let as much as possible have access to the MRT?
Is there any particular reasons why the line must be constructed to benefit people travelling from Bukit Panjang to Expo in particular?

You are correct to indicate that the objective of a mass rapid system is designed to benefit as many people as possible.
One should also remember that a mass rapid transit system consist of two essential elements - "mass" and "rapid".
How does the MRT line achieve the "rapid" objectivity if it is to be routed in the same manner as a bus route - as in the proposed looping circuit route that the existing Downtown Line has taken ?
Yes, I would have also similarly asked your question with a slight modification:
Is there any particular reasons why the line must be constructed from Bukit Panjang to Expo ?
It was supposed to be a 'Down Town Line' - where four MRT lines already exist : NS, EW, NE and the Circle Line (CC).
One would have thought that the Bukit Panjang-Bukit Timah Corridor would have been better served with a NW line that begins NOT at Bukit Panjang but at Choa Chu Kang and terminating at the new Financial Hub around the Sands IR - or further south at the International Cruise Terminal.
The Down Town Line could have run from Queenstown-Bukit Merah-New Bridge Road-Sands IR-Beach Road-Kallang Basin-Macpherson-Kaki Bukit-Bedok Resevoir-SingaporeExpo.

The ride will not cost more. Changing from DTL2 to DTL3 and vice-versa is considered as making one trip, transferring passengers do not need to tap out of the fare gate at Rochor station.

DTL3 route alignment will goes something like this:
Chinatown station (DTL1) > Clemenceau Ave > under Fort Canning > Prinsep St > Rochor station (interchange with DTL2) > Jalan Besar > Kallang Bahru > Kallang Way > MacPherson estate > MacPherson station (interchange with CCL), Ubi Ave 2, Kaki Bukit Ave 1 > Bedok Reservoir Rd > Tampines Ave 4 > Tampines station (interchange with EWL) > Tampines Ave 7 > Upper Changi Rd East > Expo (interchange with CGL).
The finalised route alignment for DTL3 will be announced by LTA in a few months time.

You can get the answer here:
http://app.lta.gov.sg/corp_press_content.asp?start=1763
DTL2 was originally planned as the Bukit Timah line. DTL3 was the northern half of the originally planned Eastern Region line. These are two different lines. In April 2007, these two lines together with the Downtown extension, became known as one line: the Downtown line.
The primary purpose of the line is to bring people into the new downtown @ Marina Bay, hence the name Downtown line, the purpose of bringing people from one part of the island to the other (in this case: Bukit Panjang to Expo and vice-versa) becomes secondary.

Thanks for the information, we will have to wait for more details as to how the two separate lines will merge and the route taken.
When that happens - I guess all will be set in concrete and no other inputs will be considered from any parties.
It is comforting to note that there will not be any extra fare charges when changing over from DTL-2 to DTL-3.
However, surely there will be added charges there is any changeover to another line such as either one of the following : NS or EW or NE or the new Circle lines ?

There will not be added charges when passengers change MRT line without tapping out of the fare gate. The fare is calculated based on the shortest distance travelled.
