US 'will allow opposition to rule after fall of Saddam'
The Iraqi opposition will be allowed to rule the country immediately after Saddam Hussein is ousted from power, the rebel Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) said today.
The United States have had a change of heart and have abandoned plans to install a temporary US military administration, a leading KDP official said.
The announcement matched an earlier statement by Iraq's Shi'ite Muslim opposition in exile in Tehran.
"There will be an interim Iraqi administration immediately after the liberation," the KDP's self-styled "external relations" officer, Hoshyar Zebari said here.
The decision was taken during tripartite talks in Ankara between American, Turkish and Iraqi opposition representatives, he said.
