KUALA LUMPUR - A war of words erupted in the Malaysian parliament between Foreign Minister Syed Hamid Albar and a Parti Islam Semalaysia (PAS) MP who was accused of ''speaking up for Singapore''.
When Datuk Syed Hamid on Tuesday raised the issue of Malaysia-Singapore ties while winding up the debate on the motion of thanks for the Malaysian King's address, PAS MP for Kubang Kerian, Mr Husam Musa, accused the Malaysian government of negligence in failing to carry out talks on the water agreements in 1986 and 1989, thereby resulting in a series of disputes.

''If it had been the opposition that had held talks with Singapore at that time, this issue would have been speedily resolved,'' he said.
He added that he did not understand why the government was bent on dismantling the Causeway.
He felt that the government was only concerned about the benefits of privatising the Second Link.
He said the Singapore Government hoped to demolish the Causeway only after 2007 because the Causeway still had some value.
He also asked Datuk Syed Hamid why he had not followed in Singapore Foreign Minister S. Jayakumar's footsteps by submitting to parliament the correspondence between the two countries' leaders to give Malaysian Members of Parliament a clearer understanding of the government's position.
Datuk Syed Hamid then stood up and said: ''Thank you for speaking up for Singapore.''
This remark displeased Mr Husam, who went on to criticise Datuk Syed Hamid for being ill-bred.
Not to be outdone, Datuk Syed Hamid told Mr Husam not to use such a word.
Speaker of the House Tun Mohamed Zahir Ismail then asked both men to stop bickering. Mr Husam's microphone was subsequently turned off and only Datuk Syed Hamid could be heard shouting at Mr Husam to sit down.
The Speaker then said: ''That's enough, that's enough.''
The squabble finally ended when Datuk Syed Hamid's microphone was switched off as well.Sin ChewDaily/Asia News Network
Stupid idiots there have nothing to squabble about in order to score points with Abdullah Badawi after Dr.M steps down.. everything also will bring up.
Next thing they will probably squabble about is... oh, they've done that already.. that Singapore is not on Iraq's side.
And they have the audacity to tell us to keep out of their affairs.
Hypocrites!
