According to news reports, The RSS Courageous incident was an oversight caused by the commanding officer on board, nothing to do with our country's military capabilities. I have to agree with Nathan, you DO have much to learn about our military prowess and capabilities. Don't worry they will tech you all this in NS, then you will not say such things anymore. BTW, do you know that our army is considered one of the best in the region compared to some of our 'Bigger ' neighbors. Go and read on the J.A.N.E website and you will know what we are talking about.

CD is not a bed of roses as you think...while those who serve NS in SAF have better promotion chances, you will most probably stay as a 'man' in the rest of life. You think CD is 'haven'? Better wake up your idea ...Recruit! If you got friends in CD, ask them if they BRT is a breeze or not. You think NS in the SAF is a thankless job, wee think again CD guys even worse. Looks like you are the ah sia kia who know nuts. Recruit...wait till you finish BRT then come and post your cents worth in this forum lah..I am very sure BRT will change your thinking more or less.
And to all the CD guys out there, I am not against you all or anything, this post is to let some people understand that BRT does not mean is any much easier than BMT.

i will not have a chance to chao keng , u see my schedule.. everyday wake up>run 10 round>exercise> breakfast>first aid theory lesson>lunch>gym>first aid practical>dinner>... until 5 o clock start FREE TIME!!! from 5 - 10 free activity time...play soccer, see magazine, go gym toss dumbbells, knn Jalan Bahar camp now like resort. after a few weeks of this crap it's office period, everyday go home. no need to dig trenches in the middle of the night, no need to fear psychopath officers, no need to do bone-breaking obstacle course...

ok ok here's the real deal...
First station is the Urine test and blood test
then its the chest X-ray, then dental, then they take your blood pressure. Ask you a few question on family medical history. After that you go to a waiting room, strip down to your underwear. Then you go to the MO room he will ask you to jump once, srip your underwear and bend down and cough..after which you go for a pstcholodical test.
End..

ya, suction cups on the body..in the room with the wooden floors u will have to wear underwear if u don't wear shorts, never wear long pants. and try not to laugh when u see the fat people's neh neh hanging and shaking. test size for uniform, shoes, cap, t-shirt.

Is national service a waste of time? Depends on whether you train or not, if you don't train, its a waste of time. If you train yourself, become fighting fit, no, cos end of the day, you actually gain something.

So far, most of the people that I know that totally condemn NS without reservation, are those PES C & E NSmen. I will sympathise with them because its really quite boring and monotonous sitting in an office or driving around all day. I see PES E induction programmes and I wonder what are these people wasting their time in tekong and seating capacity in the canteen for? End of the day, they still don't get to learn how to defend themselves. If they say they feel their times is wasted, they are totally justified to say so.
Are we too small to defend ourselves? There are advantages of being small, and of course the disadvantages. A country is only too small defend itself when the citizens lack determination and courage to take up arms.
Why NS is important? This is a question that the govt has answered many times, even when we were kids. We are a small country with a small population and limited resources and cash. We cannot afford a regular standing armed forces. We need to rely on the citizen-soldiers to defend the country.
I have bad comments about NS all the time... especially if its one of those "welfare" sessions. And other than the SAF's peace time inefficiency, I have no other complaints. -

if a force is so good that it can beat down Singapore's forces until a state that i have to take up arms, i'll surrender. But war don't just pop out of nowhere, i'll escape to other country before it comes.

Actually i would prefer it that NS starts at 16, be good discipline and you won't feel it's such a waste going in after you're done with your poly or JC.
