They are different ethnicities they are different race. Most of them are Parents themselves and have kids in their home countries. And they also expressed love and affection to another human relationship.
what does education got to do with being "cultured" Singapore has none our history can't even compared with many south asian.
Race is a funny thing, of my friend is from india, declare herself as a malay (cose got subsidized education in singapore) is a muslin. But she is a mix blood of Indian and Chinese, so dont depend on RACE, it is not right.
"Dark skin" is just an effect when you go to the places. You sudden realized that you are now in india, or at little india. It is hard to explain.... Just like when you go hong Kong, you see all yellow skin people around, England, all the white skin people.
Educated is not equal to being cultured that why I say it as two different terms.
There are also Singaporean Ah bengs/ lians hanging around staring at people walking about the streets. And if suay, you look into their pathway and get into some eye contact, you would be accused of staring, and there you go, all vulgarities and rude finger gestures would be rained on you.
Which is worse?
I rather be stared at and left alone. Obviously TS is pin pointing at their skin colour and classifying them as lower beings -.-

Our government puts strong emphasis on bringing in foreign talents to make up for our declining birth rates over the years. I support this effort. But it seems the government has portrayed such a movement to be the high influx of Bengali workers. What sort of culture is our government promoting?
A culture where we have 'peaceful' weekend of staring at people altogether?
I remember there was this 'staring' incident about a decade ago that resulted in gang fights. And thus, from there, the government actually discouraged such 'staring' incidents.
Maybe the 'staring' from the Bengalis are a in a different form. But there doesn't seem to be anyone discouraging them. And such group of people gathered in groups near shopping centres, MRT stations, wandering about, and of course, staring.
What about the term 'illegal gathering'? It somehow seems to be not there anymore?
The government also encourages more people to get married to establish families, to have kids. Weekends and public holidays are supposed to be family days. With so many Bengalis gathering at these public places where families used to gather, will the government be still be able to promote more birth rates?
Why is the government somehow promoting the presence of Bengalis instead? Why are we encouraging their disturbingly cheeky behaviour? Why are we having such foreigners squeezing up in supermarkets, purchasing just 1or 2 items in their baskets? Why are we having television programs telling us to understand these Bengali workers and their behaviours? Why must such education be brought to us and not to them, if the government intend to avoid their increasing presence? Isn't the government concerned about social imbalance?
Like I had said, these foreigners have become the new valued citizens of sG. As for the real Singaporeans, we can go fly kite liao.............................

Please lah..... TS is stating something in a matter-of-factly manner. BUT what you have stated is your own interpretation forced onto TS!
Angjaydyn I hope you are nopt being racist. The garment say many Private companies requires such FTs as workers so they are Private Compaines' problem. HDB tenders are given to Private Companies to build Flats so these workers are Private Compaines' liabilities.
Garment only issue out Work Permits.

You know Jack shit about being in a mixed race relationship between Indian and chinese in Singapore cause you would not used the word "Dark Skin" to justify your pathetic "Effect" to presumption that there is a certain desirable human "Effect" ...?
"Dark skin" is just an effect when you go to the places. You sudden realized that you are now in india, or at little india.
You have just sweep all dark skin to be Indians........that show your limited references. How on earth do you “Suddenly” realized u are in little india ? without you consciously going to little india.
England is no more white skin there are africana, and Asian, etc.....in fact there are no singular ethnicity in any part of the World....So Wake up.

Garment decides quotas for Work Permits, and also what types of WPs can be granted to specific nationalities. So garment effectively decides the pool of workers that the private companies can draw from.

i think i let all to decide:
true: they are here to do jobs that we shun
but i would advise those who are side with the bengalis to think again, while it is als true that most of them work in condtruction side, many do not know this, compare to the workman ship of some older buildings , the facilities of the newer ones are in some aspect shoddy, i have witness firsthand some flaws where they will just "cover up" and leave it there like nothing happen, sometimes the supervisor come also act stupid and behave like nothing happen when there is a crack in the wall or something broken in the doors.
in the beginning i assumed this was mainly based on the low budget, lousy supervisor issues, but somehow nowadays they seem to auto do this bad habit even when it is wrong.
go check on any buildings now that is done by them, go see if you can and compare to the older buildings how shoddy the workmanship can get in the newer ones.
thats the outcome of a cheaper and faster productivity isnt it no pun intended

What's your point?
These workers are here to earn a living to feed their families back home, and they are doing the all the hard labour we would not want to do. It is because of them that we have the schools, hospitals, shopping malls, and even houses which we live in now. They left their home to build a home for all of us, shouldn't we be more appreciative and grateful?
They work here day and night with no complains and they have to take discrimination as well? Yes, they may stare, but they mean no harm at all. They stare because they have never seen the way of life and people outside of their country before. Not because they want to start a fight or do anything harmful.
Its also not the case where a worker stares at u all the way from the point he saw u until a point u disappear from his sight right. He'll look away after a while eventually after a min or so.
So just leave them be.
@ zello
would you leave them be if they eat snake and leave popping tiles in your home/office? so you rekon it's better to leave them be while you shell out your money to do the remedy repairs?
it's not about how hardworking they are, it's about weather they did a proper job or not.

Yea i know what u mean, those workers doing shoddy work and dirtying the place and all.
i just wanna say that some of them, not all, behave that way. So we shouldn't judge them as a whole based on some of them. But at the end of the day, what i want to convey is that just try not to discriminate them so much and just leave them be unless they did us wrong.

i think you are missing the main point.....we are not debating the flaw issue of ...... our idiot government policies and our greedy contractors for importing excessive cheap unskilled labor.
The point is that TS and others try to amplify the fact that it is OKay to sterotype by color and ethnicity.
They are unskilled labor and they are cheap already being explioted by our own Govt and businesses. So now we trash them to be Dirty, Dark Skin, for who they are???
Presumption that the Word used is "DARK SKIN" and "Unsightly" because of Who they are"
somethings are best to be controlled. we need an environment that's best for our children. its a situation that is desired to be resolved and can be resolved.

aiyoh, even a hard-core racist like me also not as jialat as you leh !
you should have compassion for them becoz they have to come here to work...............
i very much prefer them to those PRC sluts that come here to make a quick buck and breaking up families !
They came here to work for jobs Singaporeans wouldnt do such as construction workers
Besides, calling them unsightly is a racist remark, they too wanna enjoy their weekends and have the freedom to do so.
