True. Let's say it is spread over 10 years to be given out, it will still reach $19k over 20 years.
Anyway, even if it's $29k, most likely it's not going to elevate my life in any way in 30 yrs time.

As for the 9k to NSmen, i think it is very unfair to all other citizens who had in a way or the other contributed to the country, for example, the Nsmen's wives, the parents, especially the mother who borned them, the registered girlfrens. I urge the Govt to rethink about giving out this amount of money to only men, we gals as wives, galfrens, or mothers also need to support the NSmen by taking care of household chores, childrens and taking care of them like ironing their cloths, etc etc..
So I believe that we gals should actually get a share of that 9k pie. Really very unfair...VOTE FOR OPPOSITION

NS should not just apply to Army or Police, it is a National service to apply to all uniform groups, why should we gals, like brownies, gal guides, or the unisex red cross be deprive of the award?? And bear in mind, there are still many elder gals guides, red crsoss or older scout still serving the society, what do they get in return??

Or were you forced to join at gunpoint? You can also choose to quit the ECA anytime u like isn't it? For singaporean men, we don't have much of an option when it comes to serving the nation. 2 1/2 years of our youth wasted and 10++ years of annual gathering with SAF is no laughing matter. We were forced to join and we can't quit anytime we like.

That is for the babies, not for me, and bear in mind, it is our male population that is having the troubles of producing, maybe due to some weakness somewhere, not a problem in conceiving for us. It needs two to made a baby, but if one is weak, god bless Singapore. -

I agreed with one of forumer on the lacking of substance in the speech.
There was no commitment in part of the presenter to illustrate the present and future challenge and any vision for the next leap.
What I saw was a flowery speech on individual FT story and asking us to accept longer wait for train ride.
There is no connection between the presenter and the public in addressing day to day issues.
All major issues was being IGNORED and brushed aside.
The only statement that I get is just take the money and accept the situation on joblessness, overcrowding, flooding and high inflation.
It was ironical when the productivity was mentioned as the presenter have to be babysit by two nanny for his job.

9k per person is a general figure which i agree with some that it may not be paid up i a single lump sum...not to forget the "major milestones" such NS men must fulfill......how do u define those milestones? does it refer to all NS men since the first batch till now or it means from now onwards? or anyone who has completed the full cycle or...?
the figure has been set...and more debates will not change it (lets face the reality)...
9k for unlimited risks and liability (based on some deaths reported) NS men has to fork out for the country....aside to divorce maintenance fees (not to be included as part of this discussion) ...
if an NS man who died at a young age of 19 or 20 (to add on - the ONLY SON OR CHILD)...some during reservists at maybe 30+....how much compensation should the family get for the loss of a young and vibrant economic life for the next 50 or 60 years?
And yet women want a piece of that pie? how EVIL......

Males actually earn $72,000 lesser than their female counterparts... (assuming both work till the same age.) -

Singaporeans, being money minded, will be detracted by the 9000 carrot thrown.
But, it is still your hard earned money when the 7% is increased 12%.
So, it is still paying you 1 dollar and getting back more.
It will not be able to mask the real fact that the millionsters have alienated from their pay master.
They have no solutions for the mess they have created.
As usual, they try to butter coated the issue with some fairy tales that no one care about.
The singapore woman should also deserved the 9000 dollar as the divorce rate have shot sky high with more import of phoenix.

in view of the great support of parents maintenance bills....this should hold higher and in first priority for the 9K than women charter...if ever u have parents....
