LKY just appeared at the Tanjong Pagar new year celebration dinner last night.
Mr. Chiam is the first one out among the 4 of them.

The planners are doing a social engineering experiment on the small island, converting one big respected family to one big motel of strangers.

6.9 million? Seriously? Singapore will sink :(
The population will rise up everywhere as long as the economic still keeps developing. One of the solution might be expand the land towards the sea to have more space... I guess
Our population can remain constant if Singaporeans like you and me can wash toilets/plates, build houses, and serve customers. So don't complain leh... 6.9 is inevitable laaaa
why? ![]()
think ! ![]()
I think that there is a very high chance that we may hit 6.9 million even before this decade is out and maybe even have 8 million by 2030 as long as PAP remains in power
No it's so crowded le
Who are you? ![]()
As a Business broker and consultant to many SMEs in Singapore, the general views I had gathered from many of the business owners to date are that having so many foreigners in Singapore actually does not benefit them at all as they eventually discovered these foreign emplyees are not as competent as local Singaporeans. I am not sure if this has anything to do with the different work culture. These SME owners told me they actually prefered to hire local Singaporeans but are unable to do so because the locals tend to be very picky over pay and having to work overtime.
In my honest opinion, I have really no idea if these business owners' views are accurate at all but since they are risking their capital and assets to run their business, there may be some truth in their assertions afterall as they would want to know everything that goes on around their businesses.

heard the same thing, experienced the same thing. our SMEs are suffering not because there are too many foreigners, but too few locals who want the jobs.
so what if our populations hit 10 million?
don't know who are included in the count for population.
but i will be happy if there are more people here to shop eat spend money and pay taxes. Our retail business will boom, our GST income will rise, ....happy for everybody.
but if we have people who come here to just to work, whether from Malaysia, china, india, phillippines.....then take their money back to JB, china, india, phillippines...they squeeze our public transport, take our jobs, add to our social problem,...then we better not have them around.
It is not how many, 5 million, 6 million, or 10 million, it is what kind of people we want in our population.

don't worry, our new airport will be built on higher reclaimed land. :)
I am certain it won't take us that long i.e. 2030 to hit 6.9 mil. Despite the government's assurance that they are controlling the influx. I feel there are more PRCs coming over the past year. Everywhere I go today, I will definitely see them. EVERYWHERE!
No doubt it is getting crowded. More foreign vehicles on the road these days.

Well, it sure is going to get very crowded. Hopefully the public transport system holds.
