i dun understand y sum ppl will tease ppl wif Colour Vision Deficiency(CVD) "colour blind" ppl... its basically not nice.
of coz, most ppl wif CVD are not blind to colours... can even c colours normally(except for sum colours). very rare then got ppl who totally cannot c colours leH...
these ppl who tease will juz basically ask u "wat colour u c ar" y pointing out of sum object. its *damn* insensitive, for which is wat i view it...
u may think that i might be kicking a fuss out of this, but spare the thoght for these ppl wif CVD... i get very annoyed when sum1 call me a colour blind or tease me abt it 'coz having this condition caused my dreams to shatter... i can no longer take up the job i dreamt of(ie pilot)...
comments? anyone wif CVD care to share his experience?

Nah nah... u already shown urself wat u have, a misperception of CVD...
i repeat, CVD doesnt mean total blindness to colors.
In fact, there are different type of CVDs (eg. mine's Red and Green> i noe wat u are thinking... i can see normal red and greens ;P)
totaL blindness to colour aka colour blind onli occurs when the person onli can see in shades of grays or black and white and the % of the world population having such total blindness 2 colour is quite small and many of them are caused by present medical conditions caused in life, not hereditary.
ppl who are totally blind to colour may
still dream in colour, as many of them probably got CVD after sum time in their life.

yes, CVD does states a problem wif differentiating between colours, but onli A small range of colors that dun make much difference in normal life.
i can differ wif the normal shades for red green blue, but there are often sum colours that i cant make out clearly, like blue-green(looks like gray sumtimes to me) and purple-red(hell, i cant imagine wats purple-red like...)

i cant make out anything else other than the numbers 56, 25 and 5. there is one more number, which is 29, but i saw it as 70.

i can still c red green blue "as clear as day"... of coz can lah... im not a dichromat wat... juz a anomalous trichormat...

Interesting. Some of those pictures looked like ones that i edited by removing certain color spectrum.
Also, would those people who are red sensitive most likely not get drivers' licence? -

i once know of an army buddy who was really
a gung ho type of dude. he signed on in the infantry and was topped his BMT and Safincos class. But when he had some trouble in an operational unit, the medical board found him to be suffering from nite blindness.
walao, kena downgraded and his 'regular' status revoked. damn wasted. he thot he had found his calling afterall, his grades in school wasn't that fantastic and he thot the army was his ticket out. -

for ur buddy rite, i understand how he feels also... imagine wanting 2 fly in the airforce and u were told cant go in there...
hat's me... i try asking abt my career prospects in the army but i was told my chances will be limited to the infantry if signed on.
i may meet the same fate as ur buddy 'coz i realised i may misinterpret sum shades of yellow as green in the dark.
notice the 2 values in yellow in the above pic? i didnt realise it was yellow until i verified wif my fren on the net, and hell, i was reading this without the lights on.
what if there was less light coming from the screen? that would be worst.

I sympathies with your problem. I know how it feels like cos I have the same problem too. I've recently applied for 2 jobs as a technical officer and was turned away as soon as they know that I am colour deficient. It really sucks man! They don’t even bother to ask how severe my problem is and how it would effect my work! As you know, we ‘colour blind’ people can actually see colours. I don’t think that the job I’m applying for really requires great colour sensitivity. As a result, I’m now jobless and really considering joining the teaching profession. I really regretted wasting my time in Singapore Polytechnic slogging for 2 damn years for my Mechanical Engineering diploma!!!!
These companies in Singapore and even the government should start to realise that people with colour deficiency are not really seeing the world in black and white! They should try to classify our colour deficiency into different categories like trichromat or dichromat, and try to recruit those with slight colour deficiency for jobs they THINK require normal colour capabilities.
Do you know that some police department in the US actually do recruit people with slight colour deficiency. They found that the police do not actually need to be too sensitive to colours. (For further details you can browse this website: http://home.earthlink.net/~medtox/poll.html)
If the Singapore police force could adapt the same recruitement policy, I donÂ’t think they will be facing a shortage of police officers. Just imagine what they can do with an extra of 10% of Singapore's male population in their organisation!
I really think that Singapore or even the rest of the world should start classifying colour deficiency just like myopia(different degrees and type of myopia such as shortsightedess). They really should start learning that almost most of us do not see the world in black and white! And most jobs do not require super sensitive colour capabilities!!!

Most animals actually see different colour spectrums too. Some have it in a way where they can discern motion very well, day or night. And some simply see in the dark very well. Any chance of people with colour deficiency seeing better in the dark?

Probably one thing that was never openly addressed in public was the education in CVD. As far as i know, many ppl know that we are "colour blind", and thats it, their knowledge abt our vision gets no where.
I don't know if MOH had actually realised about the problem if there is so many ppl born or inflicted wif CVD. If so, have they did some research on it and sum of the effects on spore in general due of this condition? Probably our problems with finding jobs maybe eased wif some companies accepting some classifications in color vision and making some leeway like letting us wearing those lenses that aid in vision...
As i far as i know, some courses in SP for electrical and electronic engineering has been closed to students with CVD (they made the notices in the information brochures). Probably our education system should be adapted to fit into individuals with CVD, again with sum leeway given.
(the danger of taking a course and not being accepted due to CVD is another problem though
)

If it is not that serious which is if you can still see colours on their own, then it's still ok.
I myself found out about it when i was applying for a course in S'pore Poly which needs a pass in colour deficiency test. I was rejected from the course and then i took up another one which affected my life after that. But i took it easy cause i can still identify colours easily.
Only the colour deficiency test colours is too tough for us who are weak in identifying objects from mixed colours but still a colour on its own won't defeat us
