Is censorship necessary?

  Since there is now a debate on whether censorship is really necessary in Singapore, im wondering if it really is necessary to put in so much effort to censor stuff. Some people may find that censorship is too strict, as well as the fact that it is rather unnecessary and view it as a suppression of opinion, which is distinctly dangerous and suffocating prospect for society as a whole as well as for individuals themselves. However some sources state that both the government and the people want it, favouring caution and prevention over liberalism. Is censorship really important? (like maybe in terms of censoring media and news :P)

  censorship is definitely necessary for this particular group of people to protect their selfish interest.
