http://straitstimes.asia1.com.sg/forum/story/0,4386,196641,00.html?I REFER to the report, 'SIA lays off 414; more jobs may be lost' (ST, June 20). I am sorry to read of the job losses, but I am not too surprised. I book travel tickets online and, for the past several months, it has been frustrating to try to book anything on Singapore Airlines' website.
The site is unacceptably slow; it often takes several minutes to download a page, even with high-speed broadband connections. Moreover, if you change your mind, it is often necessary to wait several more minutes while the pages reload.
SIA has lost a huge amount of business simply because people interested in travelling give up and book elsewhere, as I did.
Perhaps SIA should take a look at what one of the few profitable airlines is doing with its website: Southwest Airlines, at www.iflyswa.com. It takes just seconds to complete look-ups, book travel, reserve a car...
Just to download the www.singaporeair.com page took as long as I did to type this letter.
