It might shock you if i say i was a citizen and had served in NS. but i tend to like it virtually my status remained as PR because PR status would be better off than being a citizen. it's a fact.

Come on, all your arguement are emotional without any fact. Give me some facts to counter me instead of insulting here and there. What ever i gave are true hard facts. Citizen fair worse than foreigner. Why be fools when others benefited.

Your SM also said without foreigners, economy would go into tailspin http://straitstimes.asia1.com.sg/singapore/story/0,4386,201143,00.html? Singaporean being unemployed and still have to bear the high cost of living in singapore paying high price to government thru CPF, GST, COE, ERP, HDB etc while foreigner keep their jobs that is on the hot wanted list e.g. engineer, technicial etc excluding construction workers, cleaner etc maybe and get to enjoy luxury back home.

Fine, if that is what you think, i have nothing to say. You are the one who lets money control your life, not me.I believe in social cohesion, you believe in money.That is the thing that differentiates between you and me.i take money as a tool to let me live, while you let money control your life.I don't see NS as serving the PAP, i take it as serving my country.As for you, you don't have a sense of belonging here.You are like a parasite, after wiping off the resource you scram to search for more.That is the basic difference in our views.You won't care if this country is crushed or conquered wile i care.Call me a slave or whatever, but i see it as a duty. I am just glad that Singapore has plenty of "slaves" here to protect ourselves.

you have been given facts, and you have rejected them. you repeatedly refuse to accept the fact that NS is vital to the security of the country, without which we wouldn't even have any economy to speak of.

I haven't went through NS...in fact I'm going in soon. 3mths BMT plus 2 mths PTP, well what to do?

But at least I know the purpose of NS.

Why you don't like NS? Have you been through it? (I haven't read thru all the posts in this topic yet...)

NS surely turns someone into a better person. Physical and mentally isn't it?

No war? Are you sure? Hello, human beings are known for 'loving' wars. Since ancient civilization till now, when has humans ever stop fighting?

Especially the modern world where you cannot trust anyone simply. (Modern world is a world of $$. Thats it.)

You read up some history of the past. Those famous ancient warlords blah blah..(Greek armies, Roman armies etc)...to Adolf Hitler, to Saddam Hussein, to Osama.

Humans like to fight wars, so you can never say we will not go to war one day. Yes, nobody wishes to go to war, but what to do if the people 'up there' declares war? Stage a revolt?

What if people come attacking you? They maybe will just send 100 men to topple a country without an properly trained army. Just like playing Command and Conquer where you send a hero unit into a defenceless base.

As for you question "Is there any way to stop this". You refering to stop NS or stop war? If you are talking about stop NS, its not possible unless Singapore falls.

If you are talking about stop war, very easy. Hack into military systems, blast off all the nuclear missiles what so ever, destroy all humanity. As long as there is no humans, there won't be any war.

Just my personal opinions.

firstly... did you even PASS your PSLE? any PRC student can beat you in your linguistic skills and your narrow mind can only understand the basis of nuclear deterrence which is about forty years-old. I will not even dispute the fact if you ever said that you were a normal/acad school dropout.

do you even think that nuclear deterrence will do it? if singapore will ever even get nukes, they'll end up making you stay in NS for another five years.. training you how to defend against a bid by Malaysians to steal our nukes. Do you think that having nukes is that easy? It's clear that you've been playing too much computer games.

Plus your badly-phrased quotes and pretences of being "wise" by rambling on about "society doesn't make you, you make yourself". You quote them worse than a suicide bomber could quote the Qu'ran.

We all know that NS sucks... but it's still required. I don't like studying... but I still have to do it. There are some things in life which you'd really hate to do but you've just got to do it. If you just whine and cry out for nukes to defend the country, why don't you just go for early retirement and sit around in an Old Folks' Home all day?

i believe i should serve NS cos i was born here
it cos of this country and the ppl there then i am wat i am today
it is my duty to the country although there are many others ways to serve the country.
just like it's my duty to take care of my parents even i dun quite my father but without my father sperm will i be here ???

You know it's really to sad to read that there are young Singaporeans who don't realised the importance of doing National Services... They have failed to realise that we do have a "clear and present danger"

All those who think that they are "sacrificing" their career or time becos they had to serve NS... Wake up !!!

If we as able citizens of Singapore doesn't get ourself together to build up a strong armed forces, guess what our neighbour would done when they demand a raise in the water price... We would have to compromise if not their armed vehicles would be roaming down Shenton Way and Orchard Road...

And when this happen, what will happen to you ? Your career may be gone and your assets will be worthless !!!!!

Yes... Serving NS may be a sacrifice to all the able males in Singapore.. But we do get compensated from the government, may be the compensation may not be able to cover all your losess.. Think of this, you will lose more if we don't stand together and build up a credible deterence against our neighbours that most likely will take the opportunity to harm Singapore at the first sign of weakness...

Last of all, I'm not ask those people who are against NS to agree with me. I am pleading you to just looking around your neighbourhood and imagine that there are many armed "aliens" (ie. foreign nationals) roaming around and taking whatever they like from your house... This may be unimaginable to you because we have a credible armed forces. And the credible armed forces is made up of the guys serving the NS either as NSF or NS men !!!

Remember we are just a small little dot on the map.....
