at least with other sports like soccer etc there's actually a significant number of people who watch, because they enjoy the sport, because they support the teams.
gambling is among the worse possible inventions created to torture people.
I'm not here to argue about personal rights, which I value.Originally posted by the Bear:no one forced anyone to put money on a horse, a bunch of numbers between 1 to 45 (is that right?), a number between 0 to 9999, the fate of a match...
it was done thru their own free will...
you want to take away our own free will? i'll stand on the other side of the line, staring you down...
already, this country took away my right to chew gum and a lot of other little rights ordinary humans have...
if you do not have the personal responsibility to shoulder your own consequences of your own actions, can you still be called SENTIENT?

I'm saying that the general view is that gambling is not something to be indulged in, and for years the govt had legalised gambling to control it (and to profit from it, but that is beside the point)
It had always been a quiet, discreet thing. Now that horse-racing is glorified? And other than as a sport, most people would see it as gambling.
Surely public opinion is a major concern with the media and the govt. Is this a deliberate step towards opening up?
you are but 1 man. not a representative of everyone in this country. just because you think so and you do so, doesn't mean everyone else thinks like wise.Originally posted by the Bear:if you do not have the personal responsibility to shoulder your own consequences of your own actions, can you still be called SENTIENT?
the difference between gambling in football and gambling in horse racing is the difference in audience participation, or did you skip my argument on that on purpose?Originally posted by the Bear:is it glorified? so, if gambling happens in football, the EPL must be taken off the air? the S-League next? it's a horse race!

people gamble on football, but the fact is that football itself is a sport that people love simply because it is a sport. football has a legitimate fanbase.
the only fans that twinkle star will have is when someone assumed correctly it's position in that match, otherwise it is just as quickly forgotten as yesterday's lunch.
it's not devoid of fans. it just happens that the majority of them are punters and not fans.Originally posted by the Bear:what makes you so sure horse racing is devoid of fans?

and what do you have against gay people???
anyway, FYI, horse-racing is a reputable sport... even Alex Funguson, manager of MUFC is a horse trainer...
and in some countries, see Australia, the whole country stops for the Melbourne Cup...
you ought to stop with your narrowminded moralising... what is right for you should not be crammed down the throats of others...
