  YORBA LINDA, California, CNN, Oct 21, 2003 -- On October 7, three brothers, owners of Advertisement Banners.com,were awarded $4.3 million -- after accusing X10 Wireless Technology of trying to bully them out of business, and stealing their technology.
  
  Subsequently, X10 filed for bankruptcy with estimated unpaid debts of between $10 and $50 million to such firms as Microsoft and Google.
  
  The owner of X10 is none other than Singaporean Chung Hin Chew, JR Ewing wannabe, and the bully in Escape from Paradise. What Mr. Chung attempted to do to the three brothers is consistent with his behavior in Escape from Paradise. It is a validation of our book.
  
  In Escape from Paradise, we explained CLEARLY what X10 was doing.
  
  X10 was generating losses in the US, and shifting over their profits to the parent company in Hong Kong. The profits most likely wind in the tax-free haven of Bermuda, at Chungco Bermuda Ltd, the holding company of X10 in Hong Kong.
  
  X10's creditors have a long way to go to catch up with the elusive Chung Hin Chew.
  
  In its bankruptcy filing, X10 failed to produce its financial statements. The judge has given X10 until 18 November 2003 to produce the statements -- or else.

  Nothing wrong with being a Singaporean. That's not the point.
  
  What is interesting here is that the bankruptcy of X10, along with the lawsuit, has not been reported by The Straits Times. The story has, however, received a great deal of press coverage in the United States.
  
  X10 has many connections back to Singapore, which would be difficult for The Straits Times to explain -- that a fugitive family from Brunei can get Singapore citizenship and PR status, of the CIA connection in Singapore to that family, and more.

  Given the cast of characters, your book could have provided a powerful protrayal into questionable practices within the workings of a supposedly clean government. However, the carricaturization of the people deemed to have wronged you, in your book and website makes you look petty and trivial. The book could have carried greater weight had it been written better.

  Not really. What is shameful is how Singapore let these people operate in Singapore.

  Your point is well taken.
  
  The website www.escapefromparadise.com, at least the page on Helen Yeo, and the Body Count, are nothing like the book.
  There is a different audience for a website than there is for a book. The tone of the book is nothing like the website. Once Helen Yeo attacked us, we created a page for her on the website to bring forward facts about her that were not published in the book.
  
  The tone of the book is fairly light-hearted. It has received great reviews and has been Amazon's #1 best seller in Singapore for over 9 months now.
  
  Helen Yeo appears only briefly and on one page in the book. So what was she so upset about? I suppose she was afraid that mentioning her along with Goldplus in the book would have drawn attention to the details of the transaction. That was unfortunate for us as we were out of Singapore's bookstores and National Library.
  
  It was unfortunate for Helen Yeo as well. We did not care about the details surrounding Helen Yeo in the book, but, once she attacked us, we brought them to light on the website. She can't be pleased with that.
  
  Helen Yeo never followed through with her threats to sue us.
