At what level do you think will AUD peak against SGD?Originally posted by ernestantan:AUD is expected to stay strong for much of 2004...
Some of the reasons why:
Aussie interest rates are comparatively higher than most developed nations and are expected to be raised soon to counter rising property prices in Australia. With higher interest in Australia, there will be a demand for AUD from overseas... which leads to higher AUD ...
Australia is one of the largest exporters of beef and livestock and the discovery of madcow disease in the UK, US and Canada will only strengthen Australia's position as leader. This is good for the AUD as well since there will be an increase in demand for AUD. But high AUD could be bad news for exporters as overseas companies would have to pay more for buying Aussie stuff and results in lower trade...
Speculators like George Soros said he would sell USD and buy AUD & EURO... so you know why both AUD & EURO are so strong now loh hehehe...Originally posted by Maya061:do you think it has any relation with the euro growing strong also ?

Interest rates in OZ are v high now... dun think will invest in aussie stocks...Originally posted by ernestantan:To answer sunny6110, it really depends on your own risk appetite as well as outlook of the economy whether you should buy foreign currency denominated fixed deposits or invest in equity. Do you think AUD will strengthen further against SGD? What's the return you expect? Will you be able to find better returns in the stock market? Perhaps try buying Aussie stocks on SGX?
Cheers!
I think you might have read LKYs comments and took it the wrong way. And i think GCT made a similar comment recently as well. The great influx of aisian immigrants to australia has caused a shift in the demographics of the country. Everyone knows australia is filled with aisians. Everywhere you go, you cant help but see yellow. Less the outback and country. No one can deny the fact that the engine of australia is driven greatly by asians. Even pauline hanson realised that and ask for immigration laws to be changed to prevent asians from robbing what was rightfully the aussies. What will happen twenty years from now, no one can tell, but judging from the current trends, who do you think will be the driving force for the nation? Then what will happen to the whites?Originally posted by Linda L:i think AUD will be 1A to S1.20-1.25 over the longer term.
LKY say in 80s that Aust risk becoming the white trash of Asia. He is wrong since if Aust were to become trash is only the trash of Oceania, not Asia.
secondly Aust recent years is not turning into trash, instead S'pore appears to becoming the yellow trash of Asia, and we are really part of Asia.
Australia as a Pacific Continent as that Rob Chen frequently nag about is merely 'Asia-Pac' at most, not Asia
Nonetheless, how long has there been an Asian community in Australia?Originally posted by Ytsejam:I think you might have read LKYs comments and took it the wrong way. With so many asians living it out in australia, of course it has unwittingly allowed the invasion of asian cultures brought along by these migrants. Of course they can still claim their Fair Dinkums, Waltzing Matildas and mates. But at the end of the day, the aussies will still embrace and accept the changes and thus begin the asian invasion.
Anyway, of course the aussies will be the whites of Oceania. Besides New zealand, which other Oceania has such a proportion of whites?!
