I don't need to be obscenely rich (although that helps), I just want to be allowed to do what I want to do, to lead the lifestyle I want to lead, to not be stuck at work beyond what I have to, to be able to enjoy life with my family and not have a job take that away, to be able to truly choose who I want to lead my country, to shape my own destiny without having to looked at as a failure and a burden to the country because of my choices.Originally posted by Xprobe:All said, I promised myself that I want to die with my eyes closed, whether I fail or succeed in life. Why do they not let us do what we want to do, and have to butt in and interfere in everything? Simple, because that indicates that we are being allowed independent thought and taking control of our lives, and to them it means a loss of their control over us, which as well all know, is a definite no-no for control freaks such as those we have at the helm in Singapore. -

Actually, when gahmen effect a macro governing policy, there is nothing wrong to implement laws to govern our behaviour. Scary, when there are control freaks. We are already scared of our spouses or friends trying to exert their will on everyone of us, let alone the gahmen on 4 million people. -

anyway, had a talk with my filipino friend on the way back, told him about the homeland questioning our loyalty (the stayers and quitter bit). Something he said struck me, he said:"Why is patroitism even an issue unless there is a war?"
True. No one knows unless it comes to the crunch what one might or might not do for his country. -

We are not BLAMING. Cant you get it? We have grievances and we are voicing it out. We are being objectively critical to the cons of the system. We do not think that the system is ALL bad.
Again, the typical Sporean mentality of BLAME, NO-BLAME. Some people just dont get it. If we are blaming the govt, we wouldnt have left in the first place because blaming someone else helps to "soothe the soul" and provide a good reason to stay instead. -

I think most will fight for this small piece of land even if there were a lot of things to grumble over. I mean, don't we all have PRIDES? We were mostly born here, aren't we? I think I'd put up quite a fight. But Really, it is only in a crisis, can we truly see who are the stayers and who are the flee-ers ( not quitters ).
I think a lot of us will be fighting because of all our efforts in carving out a life and a living here, and will defend it to the end. But for those who have the financial fire-power, may take wing. ( ? )
This I think, is my perception of Patriotism, though I know some of yous, will beg to differ.... -

Very true, you know, the govt thought that to tie our assets with the land, we will stay and fight. I would come back and put on my Number 4 even when I sold everything I owned in Singapore and moved abroad.
