I don't need to be obscenely rich (although that helps), I just want to be allowed to do what I want to do, to lead the lifestyle I want to lead, to not be stuck at work beyond what I have to, to be able to enjoy life with my family and not have a job take that away, to be able to truly choose who I want to lead my country, to shape my own destiny without having to looked at as a failure and a burden to the country because of my choices.Originally posted by Xprobe:All said, I promised myself that I want to die with my eyes closed, whether I fail or succeed in life. I know for sure that staying in Spore, I will not be able to go at peace. There will definitely be regrets. I am happy and contented outside the system, although I am less comfortable and take bigger risks here, at least I am my own man.
Fug man, just let me do what I want to do la! (in the legal and good sense context). Why does the gahmen want to play a part in such a minor thing? Dont they have bigger and better things to take care of?
neither.Originally posted by Viper52:About how, by staying here, are we following the Singapore Dream, or the Singapore Plan?
very very much agreed.Originally posted by Viper52:I don't need to be obscenely rich (although that helps), I just want to be allowed to do what I want to do, to lead the lifestyle I want to lead, to not be stuck at work beyond what I have to, to be able to enjoy life with my family and not have a job take that away, to be able to truly choose who I want to lead my country, to shape my own destiny without having to looked at as a failure and a burden to the country because of my choices.
Why do they not let us do what we want to do, and have to butt in and interfere in everything? Simple, because that indicates that we are being allowed independent thought and taking control of our lives, and to them it means a loss of their control over us, which as well all know, is a definite no-no for control freaks such as those we have at the helm in Singapore.
Heres a passage from the 2nd article, which Nismos132 should read
Exactly true!! Look at their legal age for drinking! It's even higher than Singapore's. And the nipplegate incident of Janet jackson & JT. The total uproar it created while in Australia it was like HUH? Cool! The Americans are shocked that aussies have Sex and the City on commerical TV at 9.30pm.. boobs, butts, arse nothing is sacred in that show. It is only available in the US on Cable.Originally posted by laurence82:True. Many of us have views that US is a haven for crime and immorality. My brother went there to study, and when he came back for holidays, I asked him whether there are shooting every now and then. He was
He said, people in US are actully more conservative than we thought. They are like us singaporeans, and they treasure peace and quiet. They are also concerned for their children whether they are mixing up with the wrong people. They may be more open to ideas, but doesnt mean they overdo it and become irrational. We are all human beanz after all..
Actually, when gahmen effect a macro governing policy, there is nothing wrong to implement laws to govern our behaviour. Such as indecent exposure, spitting etc, but its tad overdone when every facet of individual life or almost all of it are being controlled.Originally posted by Viper52:I don't need to be obscenely rich (although that helps), I just want to be allowed to do what I want to do, to lead the lifestyle I want to lead, to not be stuck at work beyond what I have to, to be able to enjoy life with my family and not have a job take that away, to be able to truly choose who I want to lead my country, to shape my own destiny without having to looked at as a failure and a burden to the country because of my choices.

anyway, had a talk with my filipino friend on the way back, told him about the homeland questioning our loyalty (the stayers and quitter bit). Something he said struck me, he said:"Why is patroitism even an issue unless there is a war?"
True. No one knows unless it comes to the crunch what one might or might not do for his country.
Hmm - NoPoint? I think NoClue would be more apt.Originally posted by NoPoint:Blame the gahmen for everything... hmm?
Wonder who PUT them there in the first place...
Wonder who ALLOWed them to do what they want to do...
And now we (minority) gotta fix the mess, can we, should we?
Stop stacking shit on the weird gahmen, its weird enuff without us painting it weirder.
I got a circle of friends, most of them I am apathic towards. Why? They made their choices, its their life. Some are in the paper race, some wants to make it big but TV program is more important than an business opportunity.
Actually you have to "thank" the quitters, more leaving equals to more jobs(Althou I don't need one.. hehehe..)
Very true. Nis-man looks better in this context.Originally posted by Gedanken:Hmm - NoPoint? I think NoClue would be more apt.
We're not even going to go into the government thing- if you think that's all it's about, you're a lost cause already.
You've got friends who you're apathetic towards? With friends like you, who needs enemies?
Go away, child - you're out of your depth in a puddle. Just attend to what The Man tells you, and leave the self-aware people to do the real thinking.
I suppose Nismos ought to thank you - you've just made him look insightful.

as dumb as it is, i'd still come back to fight even though its more likely a losing battle than not. that is national pride. We fight for singapore. we do not fight for the pay and pay.Originally posted by oldbreadstinks:i don't mind staying in a war , but i mind staying in peace time

Very true, you know, the govt thought that to tie our assets with the land, we will stay and fight. I would come back and put on my Number 4 even when I sold everything I owned in Singapore and moved abroad. Yes, it is about Pride and most of all it is about an unexplainable emotional attachment to my identity.Originally posted by HENG@:as dumb as it is, i'd still come back to fight even though its more likely a losing battle than not. that is national pride. But to me, it is both patronizing and low the way our govt goes about ensuring that we stay and fight. That is what I am very disagreeable with because they made a wrong conculsion about me (I cannot say for the rest) and try to dangle a bone in my face. Well come to think about it, they never made a right conclusion of me between the day I was born in Spore to the day I left.

Scary, when there are control freaks. We are already scared of our spouses or friends trying to exert their will on everyone of us, let alone the gahmen on 4 million people.[/b]
From what I see, they are overeacting, Sporean Chinese dont align themselves with mainland China at all, even the grassroot cha kuay teow guy.., most sporean chinese actually dont think much of mainland people, the less educated ones merely voice it out loud while the typical white collar middle class just keep it to himself or herself because it is not nice.Originally posted by HENG@:hey well thats e pay and pay.
remember tang liang hong? back then in....97? he was e strongest opposition. how smart of them to "legally" run him off with a lawsuit for slander.
u realise that is pay and pay's prime weapon.
