as for using their spouses as a ticket to leave Singapore, I'm of the opinion that in this case, the ends justifies the means. If it floats their boat, who are we to complain? Or maybe you are sore you were rebuffed in your attempts to find a caucasian lady to sponsor you into Oz, forcing you to take other, more expensive methods?

Re: using husbands as a ticket out of Singapore. From a purely objective, secular liberal viewpoint, taken only at the individual, non-policy level, I would have to agree that if that's what 'floats their boats', there's no cause for us to complain.
But you see, this thread is discussing an actual government policy of encouraging interbreeding (maybe you have problems with this term, but it is essentially what the government is talking about, cutting away all the press-friendly phraseology) between Singaporeans and foreigners. This policy is being motivated by a desire to increase Singapore's population.
That being the case, it is vital to point out that the tendency, from numerous accounts and from my own personal experience, is for local women, in particular, who marry foreign men to leave Singapore for the husband's home country. You yourself conceded this possibility when you fell back on a 'whatever floats their boat' argument.
These points are all relevant because it demonstrates that the government policy we are now addressing could very well be self-defeating...instead of having more Singaporeans through local-foreign marriages, the Singaporean spouses migrate, and we end up with fewer Singaporeans! Complete backfire! Time for a RETHINK, as the saying goes.
Haha...very droll re: courting Caucasian women from Australia. While I appreciate your concern for my social life, I would have to say that I haven't ever been tempted by Australian women (not even Kylie!), and even if I were to migrate to Perth I would want to marry a Singaporean woman (well, a nice, sensible one at least) and bring her with me. My girlfriend would probably suggest to you that she fits my requirements in that regard.

True that you can see some Chinese Singaporean ladies arms in arms with white men on the streets. But that is an assumption a significantly increasing number of SG gals are chasing white guys base on what we see on the street. What if another group of people deny seeing such phenomena in Singapore? We have to see whether such things are backed up by statistics showing "alarming rate of SG ladies marrying white men, leaving SG in a storm'

I suspect some years down the road this policy, like many others before that, will fly in their faces and Singaporean women leave Singapore in droves, with their foreign husbands.
Our million dollar ministers think that everyone overseas is clamouring to come here while a teeny number want to go. Just because the streets are lined with gold for them and their ilk, they assume its like that for everyone and they're doing others a favour by letting foriegners come to Singapore and breed.
Then again, when you build an ivory tower for yourself, and surround yourselves with yes men who constantly tell you what you want to hear, its hardly surprising they're unable, or unwilling, to consider alternative consequences of their short sighted actions. The latest in a long line. -

The point he's trying to make is ridiculous; he doesnÂ’t know enough politics to lead two sheep.
As myopic as their plans may be, it is apparent that it’s hardly the gar’men plan to encourage “interbreeding”, or whatsoever that joker may like to call it. I don’t even think they include “interbreeding” as part of their plans, much less care about it.
Why? Because like he correctly pointed out, encouraging a hodge pock collection of children trapped in-between two nations is hardly a good plan for population increase. What’s the point of creating a population which is fickle and serves little good when it come to crunch time? Given their habit of crunching the people, the gar’men will certainly know that given the choice, these “interbred” would flee for greener pastures.
This opening to foreigners to boost population is more of an attempt by the garÂ’men to artificially inflate SingaporeÂ’s figures to make up for the falling birth rates rather then to increase the birth rate itself. And of course, there is also a thing about undercutting local workers to force them to submit themselves to be milked even more. That I believe is the real reason, not an Interbreeding exchange conspiracy.
But interbreeding? Sorry, only he could think of an idea as daft as that, but given his lack of ability to view things objectively, coupled with a serious inferiority complex has caused him to view this issue through a distorted lens.

Please read my amended post above, wherein I promised to kick Ged's arse. If you guys can be objective, I think you'd be able to see that some regulars on these boards do appear to have developed so possessive an instinct over said boards that things escalate out of control and beyond productiveness very easily and quickly. Sure, I fully admit that I have my personal prejudices, and so do people like SmallPanda, et al. Nevertheless, in stating these prejudices, we seldom ever initiated the process of making it a personal matter. I believe that the possessiveness that some regulars have attached to these fori have prompted them to attack both the post and the poster rather indiscriminately. I mean, look at Ged's comments about SmallPanda, who I don't think started hostilities with him...SmallPanda was having fun stating some admittedly eccentric opinions, which reasonable posters knew were eccentric, but we let him get on with his harmless fun, and the next thing we knew, Ged took it as his personal mission to throw mud at SP.
I have no personal quarrel with most of you, like Heng@ (who I hadn't even spoken to before but who decided to throw in a personal attack anyway), but like I said, Ged dragged my girlfriend into this; she's an incredibly sweet girl who hasn't done a thing to him, yet he very readily and gladly insulted her, in an attempt to score a cheap point. That is unforgivable.
