I disagree with the statement: it's your "duty" to procreate. Marriage and procreation is ownself business, not a duty. Law enforcement, if to come true, will only make the current situation worse.

You are right. Demographically, the Chinese population has been slowing down its birthrate more rapidly relative to the Indian and Malay populations. One of my more astute friends opined that "smaller families have been happening for decades in all economically developed countries. The only solution is immigration and consequently giving up the whole chinese majority policy. The ruling party needs to feel more secure about being able to canvass votes from ppl of other races and (former) nationalities."Originally posted by Parka:

They will try to reach for a CHinese majority nation......as I was told by my friend's dad. There's seems to be a relation with race and economy.

chinese, malay, indian or eurasian, as long as a couple is educated and understands that they would like their child to have a reasonable level of material comfort and maximum opportunities in education, they're not gonna have more kids than they can afford!
there is a direct link between how many kids pple choose to have, and their level of education. its not a vanity thing, or a selfish thing... educated pple understand how difficult it is to raise a family.
the dude who mentioned that our great-grandparents probably had 20 children and they all turned out fine is just missing the point. if u have even half that, 10 kids now, u're not gonna even gonna reach subsistence level.
cost of living is way higher, basic needs have broadened and if u have ten kids whom u can't afford to send to school, u're basically breeding an economic underclass who has no access to education and higher opportunities, and has no ablity to send their descendants to school... the poverty trap.
it is outrageous that we should be thus forced to have children when it is understood that the economy is not in the pink, and the gov't is just talking its head off instead of opening its wallet.
the subsidies will NEVER justify the costs of having more kids than u can afford...
they will NEVER have enough babies... they can import all the chinks from china and all the thambis from india for all i care...
many pple are simply not gonna have another one in this uncertain climate... no money to buy susu how? government pay ah? -

Xprobe is right, we need to vote these idiots out of office before they do even more damage to us. I've been out of Singapore for too long, but when's the next election? 2007, is it? If that's the case, there's plenty of time to help the Workers' Party recruit more candidates, or to stand as candidates ourselves. Heck, if my career plans don't take me overseas again, I'd probably go for it myself.
