Although small in size, Singapore has made major contribution with the talents of Singaporeans like:
Dr Tommy Koh
Dr Kishore Mahbubani
Dr Chan Heng Chee
all of whom had served as Singapore's Ambassador to the UN.
Dr Tommy Koh had chaired the Law of the Sea Conference, guiding the many conflicting self-interests of so many member countries, to finally achieve an elaborate, sensible final agreement that was internationally accepted by all nations - big and small - in the conduct of relations with each other.
This important piece of International Law gave as much protection over the economic and political interests of large nations, as well as that of smaller nations, over the wealth in the large expanse of open sea, as well as to the rights of passage through territorial waters that are narrow and enclosed.
The United Nations also sponsors or support the following bodies in which Singapore is also an active member of:-
SECURITY COUNCIL
DISARMAMENT AND INTERNATIONAL SECURITY
WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION
ASIAN DEVELOPMENT BANK
INTERNATIONAL MONETARY FUND
NON-ALIGNED MOVEMENT
