The thing which makes Taiwan Elections and the American Presidential Elections vote recounting saga different is their respective Constitution.
And I think what the article meant was that it takes as long as up to 6 months for the Taiwan court to assess the lawsuit and approve the vote recount.
Mr Chen suggested that Parliament amend the Presidential Election and Recall law, so that a recount can be conducted legally. The opposition, however, dismissed his proposal as a tactic to stall a recount, as legislative amendments in Taiwan often require a relatively long time to pass through Parliament. This prompted Wang Jing-ping, Speaker of Parliament, to announced that the fastest way to get a recount going is for the President to issue an emergency decree.
Talks between the ruling party and the opposition fell through soon after. Taiwan's High Court on Wednesday rejected the opposition Kuomintang's (KMT) legal move to declare Saturday's presidential election invalid. A court spokesman said the claim was dismissed because it was filed before the election result was officially announced.
We'll just have to see how this saga unfolds.
Cheers and warm regards
