now, i must stress it again, locals who comes out from local uni, are talent's which is not considered talents by the govt, however, foreigner regardless of which uni he grad. from will be considered by the govt as talent. so i suggest you forgo the singapore citizenship, go apply for a US or UK or aust citizenship, come back here and work, then only will be be considered talent by the singapore govt, because, now, you're a foriegner

I guess it is a matter of familiarity breeding contempt. And the interest that comes from exotic and foreign ideas.
In Singapore, I'm just a teacher. Here in Shanghai, I'm an expatriate teacher, and accorded a different level of respect and deference not accorded me in Singapore.
It's the same. I'm pretty sure we look upon someone from outside, especially from a place where we somehow have the impression of being more advanced and civilised, as being 'superior' and more 'exotic'. It's a human thing. Sad but true. -
Personally I would have prefered local talents to be the ones doing the job.
It'll literally add weight and meaning to the phrase 'National Building' when the young artists go about on their creation. -

Bastard. Absolute moronic bastard. I've seen so many talented local artists around, who're struggling to pay the rent because they don't get enough recognition and funding. And they certainly could have done *at least* just as good a job, probably a better one, than what's been done at old Parli. And you could have gotten them for half the price of the Aussies, I'll wager.

if foreign ""talent"is allowed in every spectrum of jobs from arts to sports ... i don't see Y we cannot let foreign talents who have better charisma, better heart & intergrity to run the country ...

Are Australian pavement artists better than Singaporean pavement artists? Are there any Singaporeans pavement artists in the first place?
If there are and they are good enough (not better than the Aussies but good enough), then those who brought the Aussies in are morons and idiots. Or to use an Aussie term, wankers.
But somehow, I suspect its because there aren't any pavement artists in Singapore. Probably because we have a system where artists are not seen as "economically viable" in a society that have been nurtured to value shallow materialism (i.e the 5Cs) above everything else.
Either way, the buck has to stop with those who decided the path Singapore society has taken. -
Reminded me of an article in ST about Royston Tan's 15. It posed a good question: why is the movie censored in local cinemas when it was screened uncut at some overseas movie festival? Can't Singaporeans be trusted to watch our own local content and yet foreigners who have no inkling of what our culture is about can enjoy the film? Singaporeans cannot be mature enough to decide the content that they want and don't want to see?

Hey guys this is no joke. What you people are talking about sounds pretty serious. Now i am begining to see why Singaporeans believe that Singaporeans are treated like 2nd class citizens in their own country. Are there any other instances of this? Also where is the article about aussie pavement contractors??

Artists in Singapore aren't given enough opportunities... when there are actually alot of space for them to make use of their creativity...
One day I was on the bus, and I thought it'd be wonderful if we could have artists in Singapore taking over the job of painting our HDB flats. Especially since flats sort of symbolize our country...
