Polytehnics a Class Below JCs ??????

Issit true that Polytechnics Grads are always a class below JC grads ??? Does it mean that JC grads will definitely stand a higher chances of being more successful in futUre ?? Poly GraDs inferior to JC GraDS???

basically i feel tat papers do affect but in a limited way...
more important is the initiative to upgrade urself...
if u have the degree... but don upgrade urself... useless...
if u have no degree... but lots of experience... and upgrade urself constantly... i feel u have a better chance to be employed den fresh graduates who have no experience... -
generally if u do well in polys.. ur chances of going into U is equally high to JCs students.. like wisely, if u cant perform well in JCs, u will either end up in polys or starting a working life already

yap, kopiosatu is right...many singaporeans, sad to say, are thinking that JC grads are those "high flyers"... they are the ones who are ACadEmically smarter... BUT true facts in reality... if one is just gd academically and not practically .... What can they contribute to the society..??? JCs grads, ppl with good brains and good speaker..., can they earn big bucks just by rote-learning and speaking goobledegook ? certainly not right... but y many singaporeans mindset is still thinking that poly grads are second class compared to JCs's grads...

many people fail to note that the uneducated guy is the one who employs the educated guy to manage his company

those who think this way are just narrow minded....
success is not determined by your education (i assume your meaning of success here is social status, monetary related?). there are those holding a masters degree but perform worse (and attitude) worse then a diploma holder.
sadly i have to agree that there are singaporeans who give diploma holders and those holding overseas degrees second class treatment.

Also, y haven't the gov thought of relaxing the uni criteria even more ? Poly grads may be less academically gifted..but that doesn't means tt they are less gifted practically right ?.. Many Poly grads yearn to get into local uni But the criteria for poly grads to enter uni isn't flavourable for them at all... top 5 - 10% i think... Issit fair for them not being able to enter uni because they are less academically abled BUT practically gifted ???
Today in Chn i's "i contact", mr Tharman talked ab singapore wanting different types of students... i presumed that he meant having this 2 types of students: 1) academically gifted, 2)practically gifted... So y can't the gov allow more poly grads to make it into uni then ? since they have the intentions to develop "different types" of students ? right ?

People tend to generalise because, sad to say, there are more students in JC who are academically stronger than poly students.. Because da requirement grades for poly is less than JC.. -

students getting As for everything, doing wonderfully academically, BUT they're like the many drones who don't even have an opinion.
When i watch the news and the interview the kids from top schools, sure they speak smart, but if u were to really really look into it, the comments are just... typically singaporean. I don't know how to explain, my English isn't as good as the kids from those schools. But i do know that if you want to make it big, and you are willing to put hard work into it, you will make it big.
Quite frankly, rimary 6 education would be more than sufficient during our daily lives.
If there's a job you want you can specialise in it from then on. But the current system lets the kids study for subjects they might not even be interested in, and if they fail, they are labelled as failures.

therefore, i strongly condemn those who gives diploma holders and overseas grads second class treatments.... Its just being so small... so narrow minded... and also depicts how narrow minded some singaporeans can get... -

Like it or not...JC grads has highger chances into the civil service, which young MP or minister has a diploma? None, most go to jc, attain a scholarship and got a place in government.

Ya i totally agrees with u.. because i noe of JCs students who simply like to spots possible exams qns .... By spotting exams qns and after that practising like hell till u master it.. does it encourage creativity and innovations to poliferate? tt's the qn i like to poise
On the other hand, Poly students are trained in the "PBL" way... in that method of learning, they don't learn to spot possible exams qns... instead, they are learning to work either independently or in teams.. doesn't this way helps to promote creativity and innovation thus, fulfilling the gov's wish of a "learing nation, whatsoever " -

but i feel is not how good u start.. is how good u end.. no matter wat it is during the journey.. is the outcome that matters more? so regardless of JC or poly.. depends wat individual can strive to achieve..

INDEED! if u guys watched "eye contact", did u notice that only.... and i mean ONLY, jc students were involved?? mayb a couple of secondary school students... but i dun see any poly students(pardon me if i'm wrog coz i did not watch the full program). Views were heard from the "smarter" students. Vjc....raffles institution... but u dun hear any "singapore poly"...."ngee ann"..is unfair to a certain extend... dun u guys tink so?? -

The education minister should just combine the JC and poly together and offer a 2 years course.
There will then be a variety of subjects students can choose from. Students can then choose to study more practical subjects. -
Well it seems like until now, JCs are still quite 'recognised' by Singaporeans than polytechnics. One of the few times polytechnics are publisized is during the annual 'Transport Solutions', organised by LTA and the polys.

I have friends who get single digit or high double digits that want to go polytechnic. However, that doesnt mean that these guys are not in the top 25% of the cohort? I have seen 3 kinds of people in the O level cohort: The Brainy Ones: Can go JC and poly but die die stay in JC. (These guys should look at the options of going to poly) The Wise Ones: Can go JC and poly but chose to go poly. (These guys make a wise choice i must say.) The Ones that lose out: Cannot go JC but only poly and stil have to fight with The Wise Ones for a space in a poly course. (These guys are kinda left out.. needa create more space for them )
There're also people who have no choice but go to JC instead of poly because of one thing: they failed maths. Surprisingly, this small group of people still meet the JC criteria of <20 R5 and another requirement of getting into JC is pass in english and D7 in maths/sciences. For poly, its the other way round.
In short: JC: Must pass English to get in. Poly: Must pass Maths to get in.
Maybe the garment should hear out what the polytechnic students are doing/what they have to say. I guess the media is bias to the garment. why? JC/CI are wholly under MOE while polys are not completely under MOE. hence, the JC/CI have more media attention year by year.
It seems like after Tharman took over the edu portfolio, many good things happen... I hope he can increase the poly grad cohort to 20% Based on the current 10%, on average, about 900 Poly grads make it to Uni each cohort, that's 225 per school which on average its 2 or 3 per class!

I can't blame some people who look down on poly students. Most people i've seen studying in a poly have very poor dicipline, take dressing for example, is it me or are those people dressed like punks? Most who go there enjoy the freedom and the 'adult'- like student lifestyle instead of interest...ask what they want to do in their lifes? Make money. That's all they know.

i actually agree with him.
you've spent 10-13 years learning general subjects, do you really need to spend another 2 more years doing the same stuff?
your A levels are useless. go straight into poly and learn something practical. after that, whether or not you go to U is your choice.
