our PAP govt will not pull out troops. this is inline with their support of USA fight against terrorism. if we decided to sent troops such scenerio would have been taken into consideration.

The USA is not completely innocent. The Americans are as foolish as most peoples of the world. Look at the naivete of faith-based Bushism.
But the militant Islamists should be everybody's enemy, including all peace-loving Muslims. They stand for an unrealistic view of the world -- one which is totally exclusive (only Muslims deserve respect, and nobody else), intolerant, delusional and unrealistic.
To rid the world of terrorism, its root causes must be addressed. The Palestine problem and widespread poverty needs to be treated with greater urgency.
My sympathies go out to the Korean hostage. The filming of the beheadings by the Islamists is crude terrorist propaganda that is meant to shock. But on the ground level, thousands perish in the world everyday as a matter of routine, and in a manner equally horrendous.
Perhaps it is just a basic natural truth that the world is a cruel place.
