Should the Government Make the Rich pay more taxes?

Comments Comments....Saw a post saying that some one has lost his love for the country slowly and would want the governemt to impose more taxes on the rich...do you think that will help the nation?

Yes,tax the rich help the poor! But the extra tax of rich must really go back to the poor! Like cut down on transport fee,reduce of maintainence fee of 3-rooms and below and ....

the rich and poor gap in singapore are getting wider and wider.
maybe that the new economy we are talking about. poor get poorer and rich just get richer.
the salary gap in singapore is also getting wider and wider. civil servants can be millionaire by the hundred. is something wrong with your pay structure for the civil servants? im not saying civil servants cannnot be rich but they are too rich that i start to suspect the justification of the govt pay structure.
during recent reservist, i saw many young scholar major and half colonel draw mercedes benz to camp.
sad sad sad.
if you want to stay and fight for this govt, good luck. i think alot of ppl are planning exit route. -

Rich people always a lot of loopholes what lei. Go do some calculations and you see the poor always pay more taxes. Besides rich people has money. Money is a very strong bargaining power in Singapore.
I also planning to earn a lot and then migrate to other country next time. What for stay in a country where only elites are favored? -

As one of the filty rich, I object to the notion that the rich should pay more tax. I suggests that the France of Louis XVI be our guide, then the French state achieved the distinction of a tax system in which the poorer you were, the more you paid.

what the reason are we paying taxes? so that the govt ministries are operating? or pay for the social benefits?
if we are paying for the operation cost of govt ministry then we are overpaid. tax can be in terms of many form. incometax, road tax, HDB tax, AND ALL KIND OF $%^$&%^ TAX. coz govt have too much millionaire.
social benefits? do we have any? all kind of subsidies are just talk by govt? our education and housing also got subsidies??
glad to know there are many willing tax payers here. below 20k no need to pay tax but you are paying more through daily taxes. GST 5% kill you even more than tax. when you earn less, there not much govt could reap from those lower income, but through GST they could end up getting more from the poor. As for the filthy %^&%^ rich one, they should pay more for the social benefit for the less fortunate. my thinking is naive, not feasible. could be. does fighting for the less fortunate arent a good reason to ask the rich pay more.

No tax for Gov ?? No tax means no police, no army, no MOE thus no teachers and no one to build the road etc. If we do not have such services, do u think there is any security or progression for our society ? BTW schools r largely subsidised from primary to JC.
GST is designed to tax the rich more since the rich is more likely to buy more things than the poor. This is suppose to be a fair way to tax since business like frying Kway Teow may be millionaires but can declare they r earning peanuts.
There r several social benefits for the needy as well... I believe one may not die of hunger nor be homeless nor be uneducated in singapore... though u may not have enough cash for the best medical care... although I must admit it may be lesser than western countries.... but of course western countries r inherited to be rich which is different from asian economies. -
