Well said.We will not kowtow to China, economic prospects not withstanding.Pride and soul of our nation was built on people seking a better life, free from the incompetence and tyranny of the Qing, another dynasty which assumed China was the center of the world.To have the hubris of the Chinese government forced down our throat like it's something we must accept is simply unpalatable.It's not about whether China is a powerful nation or not, in fact, this episode has shown how ungentlemanly and low they will stoop to attempt to influence otheres to ignore Taiwan's existence.

I believe that LSL's trip to taiwan is ratjer "anything else" than personal..(U can't expect our coming PM tell you that "hey, i going to taiwan to talk to their bosses!)this trip made's essential for spore....juz imagine if spore will to oblige n listen n "obey" wat china say, we'll be turning into puppets soon...controlled by china...which is not a very wise future for spore...
I believe that this trip made by LHL is crucial for spore future....either spore will be controlled by china or become a wise peace-maker will really gonna depends on this trip.. -

China will not/cannot trust Singapore as long as Singapore is willing and able to be part of the US global defense alliance both explicitly in defense pacts and implicitly in the US use of Singapore military facilities and vice-versa. SG's tactics and weaponary are basically US platforms, and so too in all likelihood are high level regional intel gathering and dissemination.
This sounds all too similar to Taiwan's profile for mainland tastes, hence their positioning and posturing has to be understood in that context; investment dollars notwithstanding from both the US and SG in China.
Historically and geographically, however, SG has made the only logical decision available to it.
As for buying Chinese products, it is only through a sound and stable economically viable China that conflict will be less likely as there will be much more for them to lose than gain in conflict. Americans felt the same way about Japanese products after WWII, but with economic prosperity the Japs are far more interested in selling more Toyotas and Playstations today than they are about marching into Manchuria.
The faster China gets wealthy the better off we'll all bein the long run. -
