democratic??? are you serious???Originally posted by tspg:Singapore is a democratic country, each citizen has the right to cast a vote during the elections. We do it with our hands by the way, not with our foot.

what a sunny day..Originally posted by j28w32:that bloody son of previous PM taking the office is because you or majority of singaporeans cast their votes on him?? or maybe he is the only person you all can vote on. Keep cool when you are arguing about this issue.
I think you are trying to say that we are uncivilise because we have caning and the death penalty. I would say thats barbaric and uncivilise, but necessary for law and order. The criminals are punished that way for the good of the society as a whole.Originally posted by j28w32:democratic??? are you serious???

As for you leaving the forums, if the majority of the forummers think so because your behavior is unreasonable, then it is democratic.
So whats your opinion of Tainanmem ? I'm looking forward to hearing your opinions on that.

Therefore I take it that you indirectly support the June 4 incident because you are not in support if anyone who speaks up about that?I respect Wang Dan.he had the vision to lead the students in demanding more transparency and accountability from the government.Where is he now?In self-imposed exile in US, working as a Professor in Harvard. Is this the kind of government that you silently back?Someone with vision is ignored and perscuted? My country may not be a very free nation and public protest is nearly non-existent due to certain historical reasons and the fact that the people who went through the 60s' riots are still alive, but at least we do not send in tanks to crush and roll over our own countrymen. When you look at the unnamed and unarmed demonstrator being crushed by a tank, it only shows to the world that your government is a ruthless and childish one.One that is thin-skinned and fears the people.Originally posted by yak32:Well, u r talking about two issues.
First, he disclosed the SARS in China, he is therefore an hero. And i give full

There are some lines in China's politics. Some can be compromised and some
shall never be. Just like Singapore, or i can say that it is worse in Singapore.
At least we can protest, or criticising goverment in China... can you?![]()
what`s your problem with long hair??Originally posted by j28w32:for sure singapore becomes "democratic" now.. as you men can wear long hair and can sell chewing gums legally.. what a joke!!

...... and pornography is illegal too. If you are comparing Singapore to America then we may seem undemocratic.Originally posted by j28w32:for sure singapore becomes "democratic" now.. as you men can wear long hair and can sell chewing gums legally.. what a joke!!
There is no law against long hair here.Originally posted by j28w32:for sure singapore becomes "democratic" now.. as you men can wear long hair and can sell chewing gums legally.. what a joke!!
Agreed with you on banning of chewing gum. An incident happened last time when i was attending a wedding dinner. Upon reaching there, i accidentally stepped onto a chewing gum. Must be from someone that smuggle it in coz chewing gum is banned in Singapore. Then with the chewing gum stuck on my shoe soles, and i went in the hotel with the sticky sound and feeling as i was walking inside. I think this got nothing to do with a country democracy.Originally posted by Qitai:There is no law against long hair here.
I support the law on ban of chewing gum. I can do without it rather than to go back to the days where I can accidently touch or step on chewing gum that others left behind.
Democracy and banning of chewing gum do not contradict each other.
Do not force your ideas on to others. The first step to democracy is to respect others opinion. Do not insult others just because they disagree with you. You did that several times already if you have not notice.
P.S. It is a good habit to re-read your own post and ask yourself how would a netural person feel about those post.
