There is only one political party in China, but there are multi parties in Singapore. That is much worse than what "commie" did in terms of leader sccession. The funny thing is sg gov set up "speaker's corner" (forget in which year) to let world know sg is a democratic country. What a freak show!!! any democratic country will have to do this kind of show to let every one know if they are real democratic?? also i guess there is only one kind of voice coming from single tv station, and newspaper which is in the hand of sg gov. it is really beyond my understanding that so many people in here defend sg gov.. and try to convince me with one thing that sg. is a democratic society. anyway,, i do not know as individual in singapore what kind of punishment will result if you criticize sg gov. in the net forum like this. or if there is no punishment, why everyone seems very defensive in this issue?? patriotic?? can not understand.. indeed..
moreover,, if it is illegal to have a number of people gathering, how people up there can have a party?? is it illegal?? how does this restriction work in the real life?? just out of curiosity,, nothing else.. maybe only sg gov can work out a way, which can only be accepted by sg people without any whinge. anybody minds giving me a reply about this??

During election time candidates are allow to hold rally and speech in public area. Anybody who are interested can attend.
Candidates with different views are allow to say whatever they want no restrictions. People cast their votes to choose the type of leader they want, thats democracy. -

as i do not think there is anything like right or wrong in this matter.. just about interests and reality.
that is very true. if there is war between china and taiwan, china must the one starting the attack.
the situation is like that.. china is out of option now. and taiwan trys to take a chance.. i guess taiwan thinks china will spend this period of time to get its economy up to certain level. and china will be put to second thoughts if they will attack taiwan at this moment. as china will get a lot of hostility around world because of doing this. and all achievement of getting its economy onto track will down to the drain. and if china keeps going like now and what it had done in the past 20 years.. in the foreseable future,, let's say next 20 years.. china will certainly become a world or at least regional superpower. at this time, taiwan will totall lose the chance of getting independence. and right now, at this moment, this is very good or the only chance to do this gambling. if every thing is going all right,, maybe taiwan can become independent without a war. if they miss this time,, taiwan will lose the chance forever. that is why taiwan starts pushing in the very hard way. or you may not like calling it "aggressive" way. but actually it is.. china is unwilling to get into war when its economy starts taking good shape.. and want to take advantage of this time to develope its shabby economy.. basically china is just forced into the corner. and run out of option other than force. it is common sense that china will make full use of this optimum period to develop. but shlt always happens as sb says in here.. -

Sure, we have our grouses and demands but i think they shd be made within reasonable limits. -

As for the Taiwan issue maybe I can use an analogy to illustrate :
China is like a father and Taiwan is like a son. One day they had a big fight and the son decide to leave home. The father is very angry. But is he right to go and beat up his son in order to bring him home ? And there will be neighbours trying to stop their fight.
Even if Taiwan were to go independent, I do not think it can be a reason to use force. Economic sactions will be more appropriate not war. A reunification war will only deepen the hatred between the sides for the next few generations. Reconcilation comes about through understanding not force.
As for Singapore, it is like a busybody neighbour. If you see you neighbours quarrel you try to help right ? That's what Singapore is trying to do. The father may not be happy, but at least the neighbour has kind intentions. -

People have to be responsible for what they say. If Taiwan politicians start sueing each other, they will stop fighting. and some of your comments lack of ground to me.
this matter is all about interests. the reality.. and when singapore got involved in this matter is also because interests. not out of "kind intention".
nobody is angel. if you reckon taiwan is a "son", (hardly can agree though), this son is doing sth malicious right now. this island is not innocent..
and like in the previous notes i put, china is being forced into the corner now. and has to get prepared for what it really wants to do.. not because taiwaness are also chinese. but because now it is not right timing for china. for last many years i think china have tried to used peaceful way to sort it out. but apparently they failed.. in this regard, in my understanding a lot of chinese in china are far too naive. they always think taiwaness are chinese, they will not embrace the country like japan.. but they are totally wrong. and now they have to face the reality of using force. as that is only method in their hands.. pity, isn't it?? but i do not think using force is their real intention.. but situation makes china to go for it... and at any costs.. -
