and now you are not the representative of sg gov. and i am not very clear about the extent of restriction of speech in singapore. what i am saying below may not be right or accurate. as before i did not pay much attention to singapore.. there are two things which shocked me in the past,, they happened in singapore.. one is in 1997 the opposition leader Mr Tang or Tong? can not remember, was charged with defamation against your PM and got big fine.. because of criticising gov. and now there are more similar cases like that happening.. that is really the unique way for sg gov to oppress the different opinion. not putting them in jail, but sending them right into bankrupcy. that is really smart. but that is radical political oppression, isn't it? that is the reason why in the past chinese gov wanted to learn sth from sg gov.. obviously they are not as smart as sg gov, which is full of talents. they can work out such talented way.. the success of such a lawsuit does not mean sth is happening behind the door or underneath the table in sg politics? the other is more shocking.. that son of your PM will scceed PM for next term. just wonder how sg gov. can do that without the strong reaction from sg people if sg gov allows any different voice? That is much worse than what "commie" did in terms of leader sccession. The funny thing is sg gov set up "speaker's corner" (forget in which year) to let world know sg is a democratic country. What a freak show!!! any democratic country will have to do this kind of show to let every one know if they are real democratic?? also i guess there is only one kind of voice coming from single tv station, and newspaper which is in the hand of sg gov. it is really beyond my understanding that so many people in here defend sg gov.. and try to convince me with one thing that sg. is a democratic society. anyway,, i do not know as individual in singapore what kind of punishment will result if you criticize sg gov. in the net forum like this. or if there is no punishment, why everyone seems very defensive in this issue?? patriotic?? can not understand.. indeed..
moreover,, if it is illegal to have a number of people gathering, how people up there can have a party?? is it illegal?? how does this restriction work in the real life?? just out of curiosity,, nothing else.. maybe only sg gov can work out a way, which can only be accepted by sg people without any whinge. anybody minds giving me a reply about this??
firstly i would like to say i am not saying sth for china. and i have got no intention of making a judgement in this matter which side is right, which side is wrong.Originally posted by tspg:The difference is Taiwan is aggressive because it wants to defend itself. As for your last question :
During election time candidates are allow to hold rally and speech in public area. Anybody who are interested can attend.
Candidates with different views are allow to say whatever they want no restrictions. People cast their votes to choose the type of leader they want, thats democracy.
china has got 8-9 parties.. only one party is real, i mean it has got real power, the rest are just for show. and to certain extent, they are allowed to express their opinion and cast the "votes".Originally posted by tspg:There is only one political party in China, but there are multi parties in Singapore. I'm sure a lot of other formmers are reading this. Some people seem to derive cheap thrills by making malicious and baseless attacks on their own govt.
Sure, we have our grouses and demands but i think they shd be made within reasonable limits.
mate,, let me tell you.. if you want to get sth personal.. we can change the topic. i am in the right mood now.. or back to the topic. express your opinion about it .Originally posted by tspg:Well he's not the only one who needs to be educated. The opposition party in Singapore is for real, the issues they raise are real, they have real power and cast real votes. en.. maybe the only case happened in singapore and around the world. how much the fine is?? several mils? for talking sth offensive? what about those brawel in taiwan politics?? several billions if happened in singapore?Originally posted by tspg:The opposition party in Singapore is for real, the issues they raise are real, they have real power and cast real votes. But the problem is the son also want to fight and don't want to go home...If the son want to go back home, the father sure don't want to fight...Ask ah bian....Originally posted by tspg:As for the Taiwan issue maybe I can use an analogy to illustrate :
China is like a father and Taiwan is like a son. One day they had a big fight and the son decide to leave home. The father is very angry. But is he right to go and beat up his son in order to bring him home ? And there will be neighbours trying to stop their fight.
Even if Taiwan were to go independent, I do not think it can be a reason to use force. Economic sactions will be more appropriate not war. A reunification war will only deepen the hatred between the sides for the next few generations. Reconcilation comes about through understanding not force.
As for Singapore, it is like a busybody neighbour. If you see you neighbours quarrel you try to help right ? That's what Singapore is trying to do. The father may not be happy, but at least the neighbour has kind intentions.
People have to be responsible for what they say. If Taiwan politicians start sueing each other, they will stop fighting. I would say that would be a good thing.Originally posted by j28w32:en.. maybe the only case happened in singapore and around the world. how much the fine is?? several mils? for talking sth offensive? what about those brawel in taiwan politics?? several billions if happened in singapore?
