its prob good that he gave a happy outlook for singapore? think about it, these speeches actually do affect what singaporeans will think about singapore's own future and what decisions investors will make. if he can define a focus, ie. care for the aged, nuture young and economic growth, it gives people and social organisations a direction to walk in.. its better than delivering a bunch of gloomy forecasts or watever.
in the sense, he prob looked nervous, but how calm will u be if u've been in dpm for 14 years n finally became pm? maybe alot of us, me included, might not have agreed with some government decisions or decisions of LHL's ministry or watever in the past, but then again, i think he will make some changes, yet it cannot be a sweeping change such that we lose our footing as well.
Well friend,
I think it would have been better for him to say all the non-conventional stuff outright. but anyway, I am pretty wary of all the focuses defined, especially the one on youth. Somehow, I fear that MCDSY Youth Dept is going to be an extension of YP, and churn out more yes-men, to keep the ruling party's position intact....in other words, a purely brainwashing-directed move. And anyway, happy outlooks are key in a motivate-people-to-follow-me speech, like the kind of speeches Bush is making to Americans now about his administration.
Anyway, possible his father's presence made him nervous. I suppose having such a *successful* father and all that kinda makes him feel like a dwarf.
btw, looking around at various forums, I daresay mainline opinion has not exactly changed even after the speech, which unfortunately sounded pretty fake. the supporters still support, the opposers still reject.
