I think by keeping quiet we are being silent collaborators. It will only encourage the racist in their haressement of the minorities. The majority should speak up and take action.Originally posted by Qitai:But talking about it stirs up emotion rather than solving it. Still think it is better to silence it then to let it stir up emotion. I believe each episode of this has people walking away being more racist than less racist.

If the person is ill-informed or ignorant, other forumites can clarify the issue based on what they know or quote examples from their own experiences.Originally posted by Qitai:You have my support.
Can we have a policy of deleting any racist post/thread on sight?
Problem is racist comment usually attract similar offensive comments. Theortically, it is best to have the majority speaking up to clear the misunderstanding. But, often then not, it degrades to the point of just a few people making personal attacks on each other. The end result, those few people walks away even more convince of their racist views. Is that good?Originally posted by tspg:I think by keeping quiet we are being silent collaborators. It will only encourage the racist in their haressement of the minorities. An open and frank discussion will help clear misunderstandings or misconception some ppl might have.
This is what I like to avoid. Fun perhaps, but that is how extremist breeds.Originally posted by tspg:If the person is a trouble maker, we will have a BBQ session and roost him over the open fire.
We cant change the hardcore racist, but we can make them feel unwelcome here. They can take their crap elsewhere. I wont tolerate them.Originally posted by Qitai:Problem is racist comment usually attract similar offensive comments. I know it is best to try to clear things up. Unfortunately, this usually does not seems to happen.
I understand your opinion. But sadly, I am more of a realistic person.
Just ban them. No need to make them more racist.Originally posted by tspg:We cant change the hardcore racist, but we can make them feel unwelcome here. They can take their crap elsewhere. I wont tolerate them.
Well you know how I roost ppl. Nice and easy. No need to degrade to personal insults.Originally posted by Qitai:This is what I like to avoid. Fun perhaps, but that is how extremist breeds.![]()
Not you lah! You are one of the more rational people around here. But you know what happen last time. Surely that last guy did not benefit from our roasting here.Originally posted by tspg:Well you know how I roost ppl. Nice and easy. No need to degrade to personal insults.![]()
The problem went out of hand because we didnt nid the problem in the bud. If our forummers are more rational that guy wont be so agitated and create so much trouble. We have to share part of the blame too.Originally posted by Qitai:Not you lah! You are one of the more rational people around here. But you know what happen last time. I agree, racism is a serious issue but not a "suppressing" issue, most things if we suppress them, they will only turn out more serious than they should be!Originally posted by FireIce:shd we suppress it or shd we educate the public to treat this issue seriously?
avoid talking about it wun solve anything, in fact, might aggravate the misunderstandings.....
bery sensitive and tricky......but i definitely dun support sweeping them under the carpet......
I am more tolerant of people who are supposedly racist than those who are outright vulgar.Originally posted by tspg:We cant change the hardcore racist, but we can make them feel unwelcome here. They can take their crap elsewhere. I wont tolerate them.
