Why do we have more Indian MPs in the parliament?

If we compare the population,Indian have the least population in our 3 main ethnic groups,why do they have more MPs representative in the parliament?Whereas Malays who have more population have only 1 MP in the parliament.Is it becoz LKY's daughter married to an Indian,thats why we have more Indian MPs in the parliament?Discuss here.(P.S.No racist flaming!)

if you haven't noticed, sg indians tend to speak better than sg chinese and sg malays.. they have better enunciation, they make an effort to not sound boring. they usually like to be in debating societies.. look around in schools, u'll know.

i do agree we shd have more indian MPs in parliment.

The whole thing about GRC and minority representation is to ensure sufficient representation for the minorities. This system is not intended to limit their representation.
Sg system is based on meritocracy. If the minorities are good, then there is no reason to limit their participation. -

His only daughter, LWL, is single (never been married), and a medical professional.
I wonder if this is a mischievious post aimed at 1. inciting more racially-inflamed replies (although the original contributor claims otherwise), or 2. creating an issue to put blame on the govt (again) by making ignorant statements in a public forum.
I don't think anyone would object to raising sensitive issues for discussion here, but this should not be done through making frivolous and ignorant assertions.
It reminds me of a recent article in a Malaysian newspaper which questioned the minority composition of the Singaporean parliament, and then proceeded to make some unsavoury comments.
The percentage of minorities in parliament is actually slightly higher compared to their percentage as a population.
If Singaporean citizens of Indian ethnicity (or of any other race for that matter) feel more passionate about politics, or want to serve the country, they should be left alone to pursue those interests without others questioning their skin colour or suggesting some ulterior motive. -

As an afternote, there are ELEVEN Malay MPs and NINE Indian MPs in the Singaporean Parliament today. (NMPs not included)

LKY's daughter never married an Indian meh?If she never then i am misinformed,sorry about that.By the way,u say we got 11 Malay MPs,where got?Only 1 in charge of Environment post mah,then we got 1 Indian DMP,another 1 in charge of Education,then another 1 i forget liao,but i remember there is more Indian ministers than Malay in the parliament.

You need to distinguish between cabinet minister and member-of-parliament. Cabinet ministers are also MPs, but MPs are not necessarily cabinet ministers.
For the full list of Indian and Malay cabinet ministers and MPs, refer to the website I listed above. You will find their names, portfolio(s), and constituency there.
I won't talk about NMPs and NCMPs...that will confuse you even further.
