Since when did I say that ?Originally posted by kopiosatu:Yes, OPEN the fields first, build facilities. If they fail to obey, PUNISH them
but the problem now is that the kids are being cornered with no other options.
Tell them to play another game? Obviously a non-footballer making that comment.

On the other hand....![]()
I do understand the situation. I am not saying that putting the nails are correct. I am saying that the "reason" for kids to play soccer (or ball games) in a void deck with plenty of pillars is NOT the solution.
Kids being kids, they don't care if the balls are clean or dirty, they don't care if the balls hit the fluorescent tubes and smashing them, they run away at the first spot of trouble. So in such a situation, what do YOU say?
I'd agree that there is insufficient play areas, I just don't agree that the void deck is the place for ball games, especially but kids who can't aim a ball to save their life.
On the same side of the argument, a soccer game is not the end-all in this argument. What if kids wish to play squash, or rugby, or tennis? Wouldn't you agree that there are other proper places to play this game?

I think thats really a stupid idea. They shd look at the root of the problem instead. That children have no proper places to play. Build more street soccer courts or educating them not to be inconsiderate by playing at void decks.
you gotta to note that this nails are only in one precinct (or something like that) It is a not a PAP or garmen initiative. I also agree that it is an ill-conceived idea to control the ball game issue. It is NOT A POLICY.Originally posted by kopiosatu:Like i said, build adequate facilities, open the school fields BEFORE we decided to put nails on walls.
If u can see the situation right now, where can the kids go?
And poor neighbourhood kids don't play rugby, tennis or squash i can assure you that.
Originally posted by Chin Eng:Yes, do not play at the void, then i will tell you, LOOK AT THE ROOT CAUSE.

You are right to assume that MOST neighbourhood kids do not play rugby, tennis or squash. I was just trying to illustrate a point that there is an issue with playing improper sports in the ill-suited void deck.
also along the same argument, kids can play many, many other games other than soccer. I do reiterate the fact that the void is a poor place for a proper game, not to mention dangerous when you consider the high chance of slamming oneself onto the pillars.
the issue is NOT, kids cannot play, it is kids should NOT PLAY BALL GAMES IN THE VOID DECK.

What is the mentality prevailing here? Singaporean are very at home in taking punitive actions to solve problem, fine, ban, jail, cane. Can't do this to the kids so resort to embed nails on walls, to prevent, to discourage... The idea is: "as long as you don't come and dirty my place, as long as you don't damage my school field, where you play balls is not my problem."..... other places you just see signs saying 'no swimming, no cycling, no ball games......'Originally posted by tspg:Town councils resort to embedding nails on walls in common areas and void decks to deter children from playing ball games there. - New Paper.
