I was born in a family where all we had is a room for a family of six. Is this having a luxury life?
I have also survived 6 months with just $600 dollars once in my life.
If you are really that poor, why are you still spending your time here? Your time can probably be better spend earning additional income for your family. -

Reading your reply on the HDB flat price, I now understand where your resentment comes from - being in a stuck position for having purchase an overpriced HDB flat at the height of the property craze in 1997.
You are not born poor. You are poor because of a bad decision making and now is very upset that it has happen. The truth is you tried to speculate in housing, got burn and is trying to blame someone for it now. Your high cost of living comes from this $243,000 loan you took when you do not really have the means to support it. Now that the property price has dropped, you find yourself in a stuck position.
Don't gamble if you don't have the means to. Yes, buying property and hoping to sell it at a higher price later is a gamble. You could have just settled for a smaller flat or a rented flat, but you probably have too much pride to settle for that and also have wrongly believed that the property price will always rise.
Let this be a lesson for the rest and learn not to live beyond your means. -

How you know that I was not born poor??? My dad has got no CPF neither my mun has got CPF too. We were living in 1 rm flat at Lorong Limau with eight members in our family and you want to know how we squeezed. I don't even dare to ask for extra money from my parents to buy colour pencils during primary school.

I was married at that time and that was my first house; and with my income S$5500 per mth. Why can't I support it??? Why can't I buy a resale flat cos, I don't have the cash to pay for even a three room resale flat. And my priorty is live near my parents.
I am still capable of supporting my first flat with CPF until today if I want it and infact I love my first house very very much also.
On what ground that you are qualified to say that I speculated in property??? you must be nuts.
I never got stuck in position. Infact I sold my house in 2002 january and bought a resale 30 years old flat and with loan of S$130K with HDB.
Todate, I don't owned any of our banks in singapore or around the world a single cent.
So... what lesson to learn from here??? -

FYI. average monthly salary in Japan is ~390,000 YEN. If I translate this to daily salary by dividing by 20 (an understatment), the daily wage is 19,500 YEN ~ 300 SGD per day (an overstatement). I know a few singaporeans who went over to Australia through skill migration , with money to secure a rental apartment , 3 days of hotel fees and a secured job. Countries like Australia, New Zealand and Canada is very easy to migrate if you have (1) A reasonable good education and (2) A job offer or have been a student there. Others like Japan and most european countries, it is difficult if not impossible to migrate. For these countries, marriage is perhaps the easier way to migrate over. So far, stories I have heard are all based on marriage. -
Homogenic and xenophobic society. Japan will never recognise anyone of non ethnic japanese descent as citizens. Even 3rd gen koreans are refused citizenship. My aunt is married to a japanese but they refuse to give her citizenship. Unless u r a top mgt fella with an MNC, chances are u will end up with a place tat is smaller than a HDB 3 rm flat that is consider a luxury in Japan... and we are talking about living in the suburb. The standard of living is good... no doubt, but the cost is even greater. I would consider moving there if the cost is low...
