Mine dun leh.
MP Prof Koo makes the rounds too WHILE I am happy for Mr David Kwok, who was impressed by a Tampines GRC MP who makes house-to-house visits, I feel his remark that 'if only other MPs could do the same' was most unfair to the many others who have been doing so, especially the older MPs who have been at it long before Miss Irene Ng became an MP ('MP makes house visits'; ST, Sept 21).
One MP I know who 'walks the blocks' is Associate Professor Koo Tsai Kee of Tiong Bahru. He also 'stands in' for Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew at Tanjong Pagar, which means he does house-to-house visits there too!
My friendly estate cleaner tells me that Prof Koo sometimes gets up at the crack of dawn to check the conditions in the two wards.
While house-to-house visits are great and can certainly generate greater respect for an MP, residents too must play their part by speaking up more, especially on issues affecting their community, instead of just seeking personal gratification.
