There are signs that the long awaited GE since the last one in 2001 will soon be held. The chance has come for Singaporeans to make the difference.
After so many passionate posts on the forum of extreme criticism of the state of affairs in Singapore, is it not time to puts all your own words into action?
Let those who disagree with the PAP, take a stand - volunteer to themselves to the Workers' Party of Singapore and be counted.
Let those who support the PAP take the step of joining the PAP, they are going to need some help too.
In short, practice what you preach and show some conviction in your views. Don't just sit back and criticise from behind a computer without even daring to show your name, the PAP is not going to change simply because you do that. -

election's not round the corner actually, in fact, it's just a regulatory that 3 years after the previous election, the voter's namebooks must be updated.
the next election should only be at 2007, since our pm is just installed, 2005 less likely, 2006 a lot of things will be changing including education. -
First, I must listen to both speeches. I don't see any reason to vote for morons just to go against something I hate. i dunno if u ppls feel the same way as me. most of those ppls who bo chap about politic one usually vote for PAP because they felt it's a norm. every elections come, same choice vote for PAP coz everybody is voting for them. also, by voting for PAP, they would live their lives as before as there's no big changes in the gov. just like 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it'(dunno the real phrase)

If you have basically no one to vote for and do not have the legal means to form a party, then you can only laugh when ppl vote. -

If my brother were 2SG Hu En Huai, I would never cast my vote for PAP after what has happened. I'd rather CSJ or Slipper Man got my vote. I think what Tik Lik is saying, do something now, instead of sitting in front of your computer to get into flame wars.
Workers' Party needs alot of volunteers on the ground. It is not a matter whether you will vote for WP or not, but to take a step further than merely voting.
At this stage, it is not possible for all wards to be contested, basically because we don't have enough people, both the front runners and backstage supporters. Don't wait for worthy people to contest in your ward. Even if you miss the opportunity of voting, it doesn't mean you cannot participate meaningfully in the electorate process. You could well be the one to make history in Singapore.
That's the meaning of taking ownership. Of course, for PAP supporters, you could also volunteer yourself to help PAP on the ground. I encourage you to do so. Even if your constituency is not being contested by opposition parties, you could well help out other constituencies. There is no need to wait for people to invite you to help. We should encourage people to take their initiative to get involve actively in the political process, to experience and see for themselves how the political system is being formed. How "imbalance" it is.
It may sound strange that opposition members like us are asking PAP supporters to participate actively in the political process. Yes, this is truly the inclusiveness that we are talking about; not some vague wishy washy stuff.

However, that may take over a course of 4 years and the danger of running our national reserves low may creep in. However, Roosevelt once made used of reserves to improve facilities needed in the future and it proved to be good. Why not Singapore? -
The Government had become conservative since LKY stepped down. We see actions done slowly instead of with more haste. We are losing every portion of our industry if we keep allowing our neighbours to crawl and attempt the same feat. Is Singapore gearing down? Yes to me. We need another leader with good vision like LKY such that the country will improve further. We must not let our country slacken more.

The current opposition only tackles the daily problems, not the future. Their lack of vision was appalling. I attended one session of such talks before. It was infuriating that the opposition are but a pool of scattered sand lacking ideas and angry with the Government. They can only keep pointing fingers at mistakes committed by others, and when challenged to foresee the future they suddenly lost their voice.
They keep talking about checking on the PAP but they are so lightweight that I cannot even trust my future in them. Such is the problem that is causing our country to gear down. -
Dear Nelstar,
It is great to hear someone so bold and ambitious to want to form his own political party! It demonstrates that we still have people with bold visions and ideals in Singapore which most people are apathetic politically.
Forming a political party is not difficult anyway; we already have "one man show" party in Singapore!
But to run the party effectively, making it grow and such, needs lots of commitment, perserverence, mental strength and of course, sarcrifices. Leadership is another considerations, whether you could inspire others to understand and identify themselves with your visions and dreams.
I think the "easier way out" from your situation is to join a party and try to change from within. My lecturer and mentor has ever mentioned to me that it would be better for me to join PAP and try to work my way up and change the party from within. But I find it too bulky and clumsy to evoke changes.
Somehow, it is true that you could trust your life, political life, with Mr. Low TK. That's how I feel when I first met and chat with him. There is no doubt in my mind, after that meeting, that I could trust my political life with him. The rest is history.
And it is easier to make things works and progress in alternative political parties. There is already a basic mechanism and we just work on it, we get satisfactions when we see the effects. It is truly exciting, in some sense.
Hope you got your political party set up soon.
