The Complications of National sERVICE

Can anyone share their experieces and thoughts about serving in the army or NAational Service in general and the complications that comes with it before,especially during and after the 2 to 2 years 4 month stint.
I for one agree that it brings more negative impact due to its terrible aggression that is being force on us to serve and perform "duties" against our human will.tell us guys -
My experience of my NS life is,
1. A rite of passage
2. A involuntary rite of passage
3. Being paid peanuts
4. Acting like a monkey when OILs are around the corner
5. Getting injured and downgrading
6. Thanks injury for a cushy post at HQMES, doing projects.
7. Leaves cushy post for OETI, damn the daily muster parades.
8. Finding out that life is a big irony, Jaguar Coy's 3 OOC personnel become 3SGs
while the rest are men.
9. Finding out that if you do not pull rank on others, others will do so to you for
your failure to do so.
10.Feeding one stray dog some rations while doing Guard Comd duty.
11.Being able to wake up at 0900 on a weekday is succinct pleasure.
12.Never though I would miss a piece of pink plastic so much

how do you expect other countries to respect us if the Infantry & Guards are not aggressive enough(during foreign visits for wayanging)? -

life is the same at work as well... will kena arrow, will kena sai kang, must know when to take cover...
when doing things, must be organised, must be responsible, must think before doing something stoopid, must bear in mind consequences...
so isn't it good that u learn these valuable social skills while in NS rather than facing them the first time when u start work???
believe me... u can see very clearly whether someone has done NS before or whether someone was exempted... -

It is a waste of time for you guys. From what I heard, you all just spend all the time sleeping there. Think it is better you all come out to do something productive. And it is gender discrimination since those who sleep for two years inside will get more pay than us. It is really sexist.

Sleeping in NS? I must be missing something. Because for the past 16 weeks, the SAF has been owning me like 2 hours of lost sleep every single day, sometimes even more. Is it any wonder some people try to claim that back when they can? I suppose I must be sleeping when I am holding a loaded weapon during fire-and-movement then.
From WHAT I'VE READ HERE, some civillians post messages faster then they think. -

its not the "aggression" but rather the 2 "wasted years of not being able to do something productive eg. getting a degree or earning money, 2 yrs can mae you quite a lot of money if you're working!

I guess the worst is disruption from studies, having to pick up the studying momentum after 2 yrs lapse & finding changes in curriculum & behind the girls in studies & career

In addition to what gerry has said, i would like to highlight the hassle when we travel abroad. We need an exit permit even for an overnight visit to JB. This is a direct contrast of the situation in Schengen agreement member states, where it is possible to pass through borders without showing your passport (or even exit permit) since there are no customs checkpoints.
Believe me, a Schengen passport is the ultimate treasure on earth. -
