when i was still in shcool, the school admin was dead against letting outsiders in to use the fields, one reason they gave was safety, because some parents are not comfortable with strangers coming in and out of the schoolOriginally posted by The Barracuda:Maybe the schools can make their sports facilities availabe to the students on weekends and holidays. Town Councils can also build more soccer pitches on vacant land.

Voids decks are still okay... I can understand that they want to conserve repainting money
What I do not understand is their not allowing us to play soccer on the fields. I remember when I was younger, my kakis and I love to play soccer on an open patch. We reasoned that since the field is there and that we aren't disturbing anybody, it is all right to play. But a security guard / policeman came along and told us this field is not for us to play soccer and it is government's property. I was like....but you all aren't using it... and we aren't building anything there... why not let us exercise abit...
Well now the government is lamenting that youngsters of today are getting too soft... whose fault I wonder?
I feel that we shd not have a casino in Singapore.Originally posted by goh meng seng:Wah, you all treat me so old! I am only 34!

I do not have the photos with me, I saw it on TV when I was back in town early this month. I promise I will go and take some photos while I am back in town next week.
I think we need to change the "nanny" attitude of both Singapore parents as well as those governing up there. There is no reason to prevent or stop people from having simple fun. This is not like Casino issue ok!
We want a "vibrant" society, we must encourage people to be vibrant, not to pour cold water over it.

Next time the kids kick the ball in your face will you still say the same thing ?Originally posted by goh meng seng:Someone in this forum asked me about what views I have with regards to the barbed wires and nails put up in Pasir Ris GRC to deter youngsters from playing balls.
I think this is the most typical example of PAP ruling style. To deter people from doing certain things, social engineering process is used. You could either prevent them from making certain acts by putting up prohibiting conditions (fines, harsh sentencing and now, barbed wires!) or that you entice them to act accordingly with goodies (HDB upgrading if you vote PAP!)
I think only people with sick and anti-social minds would think of such "brilliant" ideas of putting up nails and barbed wires to deter youngsters to have some simple fun!
We should encourage youngsters to be more sociable and active in the community. Having a game of the ball is just a small step ahead. But when someone actually goes to the extend of detering youngsters from such "undesirable acts" is really amusing.
Most parents now think that keeping their children in their house is the safest way of keeping them out of trouble. They would stuff these kids with computer games and internet access, just to keep them indoor. This will ultimately have adverse effects on the children as well as the society's development in the long run.
What harm could there be to have youngsters playing balls in the void decks? I think it is a good utilization of empty spaces in Singapore, to transform the void deck into some activity grounds for these youngsters.
To fill the void decks with nails and barbed wires to discourage youngsters from playing is the most stupid and sick thing to do! IT has turned the void deck into "HELL"! It makes the place so ugly! Unbelievably, the Town Councils actually go on with such stupid and sick idea!
The Town Council should instead think of ways to provide more street fun for these youngsters. Build street soccer facilities for the residents or even convert the void deck to provide a safe place for them to play ball! What we need to do is to use NET to round up the void deck, put on protective, colourful guards on the pillars and we could have a nice makeshift street soccer facility!
Ok, they will start to give you craps about void decks are not meant for all these and such, but hey, there are already resident corners for residents to have TV and cushions to laze around, enjoy themselves, why not possible to make something out for the youngsters to enjoy themselves as well?
Town councils could even recover some maintenance cost by putting up drinks vending machine nearby!
Now don't you believe PAP is really dry of ideas?

NICE...Originally posted by SilverPal:The ruling familee uses the philosophy of the "carrot and stick" method. Certain members of that familee have declared in a UK televised interview.
An example of such a management philosophy is: everytime you feed your dog, ring a bell. Do it for 1 month. After that, whenever you ring a bell, the dog will feel hungry without the presence of food.
All the fines and campaigns are the product of such a ruling style.
hmmm...this looks good, but i bet before long there will be a whole list of conditions attached eg. attire, what weight of balls are allowed, etc. that will be ire again.Originally posted by sarek_home:Obviously, the "barbed wires and nails" solution is not that good ...

Much more space to play football soon
150 schools opening fields to the public, while vacant state land available too
By Alvin Foo
THERE will be much more space for sports when 150 schools allow the public to use their fields.
By the end of this year, at least 40 schools are expected to let outsiders in on Saturday afternoons, Sundays and one weekday. More will do the same in phases.
And there is more. The Singapore Land Authority (SLA) is opening up two large plots of unused land at Marina East and Sengkang, adding facilities for football, in-line skating and tennis, in addition to freeing up over 150 plots of unused state land earlier.
what weight of balls are allowed? haha does that mean people like leftballbigger can't use the fields?Originally posted by pikamaster:hmmm...this looks good, but i bet before long there will be a whole list of conditions attached eg. attire, what weight of balls are allowed, etc. that will be ire again.
