The author of the article makes it clear Singaporeans should not expect the ruling party, or the government to create an environment in which the oppositions or anybody can scold them (ruling party and the government). Political freedom is also not something bestowed by the government. A free political environment is something singaporean should fight for and to build up. So Lim Swee Say is right that if you guys don't come forward and challenge the ruling party, it is not our fault!
But the author is clear in pointing out that there is fear among singaporeans in expressing our political wills though the government keeps saying "what is there to fear?" Young people are feeling that there is no space and culture in singapore for political debates but the government is saying that the space is there but you need to know how to use it.
He went further to say that "the dark shadow in singapore politics might not have been projected by the government but it was formed after many people saw how the government dealt with the oppositions in the past. "
"The government felt it was their right to strike at irresponsible opposition members but from the ground levels there are voices of disapprovals which cannot be explained."
"Such differing views are not healthy," said the author, " not conducive in creating a healthy society with freedom of expression. "
"the government cannot always tell its people not to feel unhappy, based on reasoning." Mr. Lim Swee Say and his colleagues ought to ponder, it is not always 'right or wrong', 'yr fault, not mine', it is about dealing with people, it is about feeling, not about facts and figures. -
I think its heaven's fault. Just kidding.......
Basically, the PAP started this political problem of fear.
But it is also due to this -- when each individual ask himself "PAP or opposition?", going for PAP seems 10 times easier on the heart than going for opposition.
So, those who think of going for PAP will join it officially and uprightly, or join grassroots. Those who thinking of going for opposition, very few will take the step and the rest will not do it in the end, stay away or decide to join PAP when they are told they can 'change from within' only to be disappointed and go back to staying away. For the voters, it takes 10 times the mental effort to vote for opposition than PAP.
So when individually when individuals hold such difference in consideration of joining PAP or opposition, collectively it will mirror the myriad individual phenomenons. The collective result will be the distinction in strength between PAP and opposition.
The only way is for Singaporeans to stop looking at or around for opposition people, supporters, voters etc. and be one himself. Then they will discover that there will always be others like themselves for them, and people will all emerge to be there for each other.

Even a simple task pleaded to be the Independent Political rally reporters, nobody have any guts or interests to do anything about that. That's the level of apathy we have here.

opposition also at fault? no, i dont think so. singaporean not interested in politics but i think singaporean are rather ignorants and infact most dont know what is going on. most of singaporean dont even know who the minister is and who estate are under opposition rule.
let face the fact. unless there is major change, else political future in singapore is bleak. afterall singaporean serving their own rights. -
We chose them to be our leaders to represent us and now we get blamed for not voicing out. They are Singaporeans and they should understand what we, citizens, feel when they decided to instil such "fear". Why not let us have the big fat salary they are having?
