Frommy knowledge, SG deosn't seem to have any form of long range attack missiles.Even if have,I think its a hush hush thing. As it might trigger an arms race.Anyone has any info bout this m'sian navy unit which is equavilent to the US Navy SEALs?
yes i do. i am in the UK right now and one of the combat magazines just came out with an article on paskal. i'll try get it scanned and post the article here.. it's loaded with photos.. from the looks of it, their cqb loadout looks similar to that of ours.
yes sgfish is right to say that it indeed stands for PASukan KhAs Laut..
but i didn't know that they were sponsored by petronas. where'd you get this intel from? you can check out specialoperations.net under international ct teams or smth then look under malaysia.. they should have..
anyway from what i see, all of ther gear is standard issue. they wear normal BDUs. non-resistant to flames and all that crap. single slit balaclava covers the head. combat goggles by bolle, model t-800. helmet looks like it's the british's mk6 combat helmet. not too sure. can't ID the radio cause it's hidden. i've forgotten the PTT headset that they're wearing.. seen it around though..
primary weapon is the mp5 a2 fitted out with aimpoint's comp m2 or ml2. combat light by (i think) streamlight or some other producer fitted underneath the forward rail, specifically, at the 7 o'clock position. they're not using the standard muzzle flash that comes with the mp5.. it's extra long, about 2 inches and has thin slits by the side. i can't really ID it. they're using a 3-point sling (or is it a normal sling..)
ps; our sights looks like that of EoTech's but it's another one but apparently i've forgotten the name again.. what is it?
as you can see i am very bad at ID-ing things..
anyway, the tactical vest looks like the swat team's tactical entry vest with neck protectors, the one with buttons to secure your stuff so you can mod it.. they insert their trauma plates from the front of the vest, which seems to have a flap to put it in. what's funny is that the mag pouches looks big, such that it seems that they're carrying 5.56 ammo.. i may be wrong. their gloves are meshed, like those old biker's gloves, with finger cut-outs..
they're using drop-leg subloads for their side arm.. however they have sub-loads on both their thighs, so i presume one's for their sidearm and another's for flashes/nades. from the looks of it, the sub-loads are either from BHI or eagle industries. as for the side arm, i am not too sure.. can't see the side arm.
apparently they also have fennec helicopters in their inventory..
don't know if it's just me but every paskal-ian (haaa), i mean, paskal operator has the edge of the mp5's butt-stock fully extended, and has the bottom edge of the buttstock against their shoulder. they may just be posing with for the camera lah so i shan't say further.. but imagine if that was their firing method.. OUCH.
as for jungle operations, they use the woodland bdus with a boonie hat. not sure if this is SOP but they have their "PASKAL" tab on their right shoulder, at the very top, just like "RANGER", and on the opposite side of the arm is a patch of 'soft-side' velcro.. at the top of thier boonie hat at the very front, is another patch. it's a parachute and in wing and it's colored in olive drab (OD).
their boots looks like the vietnam-era woodland boots, with black and od around it.
they're loadout is the standard m16 rifle. standard iron sights. don't know if they use the full 30 bullets in the mag or the 28 to allow the mag to seat properly. they're issued with a standard combat harness, something like that of our sbo. most operatives in the formation(how many per squad they didn't say) are armed with the m16, with the occasional fn minimi.
i feel that for a specialised unit, paskal seems to be very lowly equipped.. i don't know if this is their standard loadout or they don't really want to reveal their equipment but yeah, what i see is what i assume, but then again, don't think that they're showing all their stuff..
for amphibious assaults, they use the zodiacs (rib) and rigid raiders(not shown in picture).. the motor on the rib is a yamaha outboard motor. i think it's the 4 stroke model, f40, i really don't know. the article says that paskal operates in sections of 12 to a rib or 6 to an inflatable..
well i hope this helps, special operator number 87. once i have access to a scanner i'll try send the photos to you.
