Navy Scuba Diving Course

  Hi all,would like to know the diference between the Basic Scuba Course and the Diver(professional) course conducted by NDU.And if i get attend the Basic Scuba Course by NDU,can it be used if I enter OCS?as I understand that for the commissoning,a JCC/Airborne etc. type of badge is required.

  basic scuba 3 weeks, pro diver/class 2 around 6 months. the later is alot more times sionger.
  
  u can definitely use the badge IF u enter ocs but u dun require a confidence badge of any kind to be commissioned.

  Ehz, interestingly enough,a good number of officers in a certain Infantry wing in OCS commissioned without the JCC back in yr 2001..
  
  Edit: remember wrongly...it was 2001 that they were commissioned..

  There are no such prerequisite that OCTs who failed JCC will not commission. The confidence badges are more for smoothening your ROAs. In order to have a better chance of becoming an OC of a company, a confidence badge is a good thing to have. Even SSG and MSGs need confidence badges to increase chances of going for JWOC.

  i've got a question too..
  my friend is 17 and he's an advanced scuba diver(deep diver, night diver, SAR, UW navigator) and there was once he asked me if he stand a chance to go to ndu (or any of those special units for that matter) with all of these.. i didn't know what to say cause i'm not in that field so i said i'd try to find out for him..
  
  oh and by the way, he's a qualified rescue diver and emergency first responder.
  
  one more thing.. he's mixed malay and chinese.. how?!
  
  ps - Special Operator Number 87 check out the Long-Range missiles post. i've replied about PasKal. I just bought this month's edition and they have an artical on PasKaU, pasukan khas udara which translates to air force soc.not bad.. i see some nifty gear in there...

  Combat diving and recrea diving are 2 different ball games although he does have an advantage due to his knowledge. He can definitely express his wish to go NDU when he is called up.

  yeah but he's a malay so how? i mean, malay chinese lah.. but he's christian now.. so still got a problem with joining the navy? oh he also went for obs and was an instructor for his outdoor activities club in secondary school.

  I dont know about half malays but there are definitely no malays at all in NDU, not even indian muslims.
  And if he wants to be a combat diver, he needs perfect eyesight , no sinus problems, and is pes A. His diving qualifications doesnt really count, I know of a few qualified recreational divers who didnt make it as combat divers due to various other problems like lack of water confidence and physical fitness. Good luck to hom though

  ah poor guy.. so it's his race right not religion.. anyway if he can't make it into the ndu then is there a possibility that he could go into the commandos...? anyway thanks for the reply..

  There are malays in commandoes, but not a lot though, like around 2-3% only.
