+1Originally posted by SpecOps87:Seems over-reaction.But i think it would be a sight to behold if some gangster try to be funny at Orchard Road and ends up facing the muzzle and in the beam of a Sure-Fire tactical light equipped Hecklar & Koch MP5A2 with Aimpoint sight.seeing them wet their pants will be simply amazing.Wooohoo!!!!
It probably won't deter much if the bomber is hell-bent on suicide.Originally posted by YI:what a deterrence.. does this help? i mean not knowing when they will pop up next. will a die-hard fanatic think twice before fastening his bomb belt?
Well, make sure them girls are looking at the right big gun.Originally posted by palmerised:i'd rather prowl along orchard road see all the girls... and them looking back at me, and seeing the guys turn green with envy. haha![]()
what a deterrence.. does this help? i mean not knowing when they will pop up next. will a die-hard fanatic think twice before fastening his bomb belt?Maybe I'm wrong on this, but I see this as a show of force. Kinda like what the Americans are doing in Iraq - except we're all Singaporeans, of course. But it's not gonna stop any terrorist who could dissolve into a crowd, or a drive-by bombing (the modus operandi of SE Asian radicals).
No worries, now that BUSH has won the elections, this guys would probably get to use their weapons sometime during the next 4 years. Yeehah!Originally posted by SpecOps87:Just wondering,if their presence there will help Orchard Road become a safer place. Those street gangs are really quite menacing.Last year after a school function at Meridian Hotel, was going to the MRT station and saw this bunch of ah bengs being arrested outside Ngee Ann City there. And at night along Orchard Road, always see alot of cops patrolling the streets it certainly is reassuring.
But perhaps this time perhaps over-doing alittle.Tactical officers armed with MP5s and revolver wearing tactical gear like Kevlar vests and so on.It may scare off tourists visiting on their first visit here as who wouldn't be alarmed when seeing heavily armed cops on the streets right?Perhaps a better way is to have a bunch of STAR personnel in a civilian vehicle parked somewhere between buildings or in Multi-storied carparks in the area they intend to cover and have plainclothes officers patrol the streets and calling them for backup when needed.
Lastly, does anyone know why are they not wearing helmets and are wearing berets instead?
urgh.. i would prefer orchard.. more things to look at.Originally posted by Moonstriker:prowl along orchard... hmm.. i rather do sentry @ mi camp...![]()
we don't have dat many STAR officers lah...they are reserved for important stuff....now is prevention niah.......we want to deter...so plainclothes not much effectOriginally posted by SpecOps87:Just wondering,if their presence there will help Orchard Road become a safer place.

Why not deploy conventional troops or policemen on this beat instead? Or is it a new directive to allocate such highly-trained SOC personnel on such "mundane", 24/7 tasks? Are they adequate standby counterinsurgency forces to repond to a real emergency?
cos' they looks smarter in it? the men in green also wear berets instead of helmet over at the airport right? the same goes for other sensitive commercial installation?Originally posted by SpecOps87:Lastly,does anyone know why are they not wearing helmets and are wearing berets instead?
