I absolutely adored Thin Red Line. Read the book after the movie and liked the author immensely.
Bought the prequel of the book, From Here to Eternity. Surfed the Net and discovered that there was also a movie made on this book. Hoping to get it soon.
Anyway, TTRL is by Malick, not Kubrick... -
Gladiator counts? I particularly like the starting part of the movie during the attack on the babarians.

Good choices although don't agree that TTRL is a war movie, more like anti-war, too much cynicism to enjoy. Sorry if offend anyonw when add that anti-war movies should be labelled such not 'dressed up' otherwise.
Other interesting choices:
"Taps" - story about military academy being closed, about value of honour and duty taken to its extreme.
"Galipoli" - on ANZAC WW1 sacrifice. About friendship sic., also another anti-war flick.
"Zulu" - defence of Roakes Drift where less than 100 British fought off about 4,000 Zulu warriors. Most number of Victoria Crosses won at single engagement.

Disagree that TTRL is anti-war. I can understand where Baer (& others) are coming from, but Malick is too visceral a filmmaker. The voice-overs, in particular, asked a lot of "cheem" questions but IMO they collectively alluded more to the vagaries of war. TTRL is, at worst, a meditation of military combat.
Compare that with Saving Private Ryan, whose tour de force opening depicted the horrific randomness of battle, then contradicted itself with its self-conscious saccherine-sweet ending (suggesting some - abstract - things are worth fighting for). I remember feeling sold out, going WTF?
[I stand corrected: Terrence Malick made TTRL, not Stanley Kubrick. The latter made Paths of Glory.] -
I like Saving Private Ryan, Siege for Battlefield Gloria (anyone else has watched this?), Thin Red Line and Black Hawk Down. Have yet to watch Brotherhood though everyone I know who watched it testified that it's an incredible movie.
