Saving Private Ryan... The BEST.. I got the original uncut DVD..
Thank my uncle eternally for getting it for me from the States.. The beach landing scene is already enuf to rap up the entire movie..
Black Hawk Down aint tat bad, but it glorifies the Americans too much.. Also a lot of scenes which r not in accordance to wad exactly happened on October 3rd, 1993. But at least the actors gave convincing performances wif professionalism in the arts of soldiering as they underwent training in a US Ranger course juz to prepare for the movie..
But my fav all-time war drama wld be Band of Brothers.. It's almost perfection in terms of gritty realism, action and drama.. It's not a movie, tat's y i put SPR.. The ringings of Mg-42 fire still echoes in my head after watching Episode 2: Day of Days countless times.. LoL! The assault of the artillery at Brecourt Manor is portrayed damn well.. -

The first half of the show, I really feel for the fat 'recruit' marine.
The second part of the show has some realy amazing scene. Eg: The marine lifting up the teddy bear, the enemy sniper face is been revealed etc. -

A 2003 British production of a TRUE story....
WW2 and a group of British soldiers were taken as POWs in Singapore.
They were sent to a camp in Thailand where they endured great suffering.
50 years later, the Jap soldier found peace as a Buddhist monk.
The Brit found peace as a Christian pastor
They both met again at the POW cemetary in Thailand in 2000 (real footage)............end of show......A truely inspiring true story...

Apocalypse Now .... Vietnam War story but based on a book by a guy called Conrad ( I think the book's title was "Into the heart of darkness".. or something).
I saw it in the cinema a few years before I went into NS and it influenced my thinking during NS. One of the scenes showed an Air Cavalry unit flying in UH-1s and attacking a VC village. I remember I wanted to be in an air assault unit, .... And somehow I got my wish in reservist, or near enough !!!
The other movie is Band of Brothers. I cried when some of the veterans spoke of their brotherhood and their pain. -

Band of Brothers definitely worthy of a mention as a real good WW2 drama series. Pearl Harbour was quite OK, up till the section where they have to show Doolittle's raid on Tokyo. It all went downhill around there. -

My list would be:
1) Saving Pte Ryan (first 30 minutes almost made me puke all over my laptop)
2) Band of Brothers (not a movie, but hey, it's superb)
3) Enemy At The Gates (psychological warfare between two snipers.... wow)
4) We Were Soldiers (I remember vividly the scene where the CO shot the bayonet-charging Viet Cong while talking on comms set)
5) Hitler: The Rise of Evil (strictly not about war..... but extremely fascinating nonetheless) -

I think Band of Brothers is good... It's like telling you how close you are to your buddy in foxhole... Well, most war movies tells us so but band of brothers tells us more details about this particular Easy Company of the 506th Parathute Infantry Regiment (P.I.R).. [If I'm not wrong] 101st Airborne Division in the European Theaters of Operations during World War 2... -
What happened to the Korean show Joint Security Area? I thought it was pretty good...

How about the worse War movie? I'll start first
Pearl Harbour - Plot too shallow, too flimsy. Commited too many cardinal sin in historical accuracy in events, equipments. I crinched in my seat in the theatre as I watch, I almost died. My most anticipated & most disappointed film. The best thing of the movie? CGI, love the scene when Arizona blew up.
Thin Red Line - The book & the film tries to be too sensitive & philosophical about war. Com'on war is savage, particularly the PTO.
Born In Fourth of July - Never like Oliver Stone, nor his potrayal of war, way too negative.
Wind Talker & others like it - No problem over the story, just the action sequence, esp. the mass attack scene, it just dun happen that way in real life. Makes me wanna laugh. -

My friend passed me the Korean movie Taegukgi (Brotherhood). I watched it and it just topped my list of war movies.
