I've read some of your posts, you do know your stuff.Bet you're from the land across the seas where a supposed poodle struts in suits tailored by the clothiers on Savile Row eh?Originally posted by John Ching:Heres a simple solution to the U.S MARINEs ranking, if you ever come across any MARINE whose rank is lower then yours, just call him Jar-head.
If you come across a MARINE Sergeant & above, just call them Guns or Gunny.![]()
Well, its my way of showing them jar-head some respect.Originally posted by Johnston:Marines is *NOT* capitalised.
It's Marines. With a capital M.
The problem is....Originally posted by John Ching:Heres a simple solution to the U.S MARINEs ranking, if you ever come across any MARINE whose rank is lower then yours, just call him Jar-head.

So you're judging the abilities of the S'pore soldiers against that of the MARINEs based on the duration of their trainning. Hmm! Fair enough if you put it that way.Originally posted by Johnston:The problem is....
A Marine PFC is the equivalent of our CPL.
I mean, look at the amount of training they recieve and the time they have to train for it.
But we give out CPL ranks to people who get great grades.
*erk*
And a Marine Sergeant is somebody to be respected. But we have 2SGs and 1SGs up the wazoo.
Wow! I hate to bust your bubble but clothes from 40 Savile Row is just to good for me.Originally posted by LazerLordz:I've read some of your posts, you do know your stuff.Bet you're from the land across the seas where a supposed poodle struts in suits tailored by the clothiers on Savile Row eh?![]()
Very true.Academia does not a combat leader make. But it is the reality, and since we are a conscript force, we have to leverage on the education of our conscripts and certain vocations need a minimum rank for the person to be treated seriously, e.g A-Level and Diploma holders who are Weapon Techs and Vehicle Techs are given 3SG because they are supposed to understand the systems better. How far and true is another thing, but it's quite effective so far.But I respect a Marine CPL who has to bear more responsibility in the field than a greenhorn SAF 3SG.Originally posted by John Ching:So you're judging the abilities of the S'pore soldiers against that of the MARINEs based on the duration of their trainning. But MARINEs are lifer while the S'pore soldiers are just doing a service to the country. And for that duration of service to the country, they are sacrificing their safety for the defence of the country which from my personal point of view deserve respect for it.
As for your concern about guys getting rank through their grades, I'm not sure what it means. But a rank is still a rank, just as an officer who doesn't deserve a salute is still given one. In the end, the one with the rank has to be responsible.
Hmm! I'm in no position to defend or criticize how the ranking or workings of the military of other countries.Originally posted by LazerLordz:Very true.Academia does not a combat leader make. How far and true is another thing, but it's quite effective so far.But I respect a Marine CPL who has to bear more responsibility in the field than a greenhorn SAF 3SG.
