New Russian nuclear ballistic missile technology!

In today's Lianhe Zaobao, there is an article about the Russians having this new technology which President Putin claims that will render the ongoing,hugely expensive and till now not very successful US research on NMD and TMD useless! If what Putin claims is true, i wonder what the reactions of the US will be.

Usu when statesppl talk abt such stuff, esp involving N-arms, ballistic missiles etc, it should be related to the balance of power and what happened recently so that they would use this news to wrest the balance back in their own court... -
nothing much was revealed. the us guess is just a weapon upgrade. anyway.. an icbm is far too big a target to miss.

Could be Putin was playing up a normal mid-life weapons upgrade for the domestic media since he needs to shore up the crumbling morale of the Russian armed forces after the huge cuts made after the Yeltsin era.

First of all, what the hell is Putin doing playing with expensive toys when he's got a messy economy and ethnic situation to deal with? That's how the USSR fell apart in the first place.
Second, I haven't read up on it, but if its key advance is speed, it's no big deal. At high speeds it will not be very agile, and the ballsitic track, combined with the speed, can be used to project the intercept for an ABM to hit it. -
