Singapore opens new air force base
SINGAPORE - Singapore opened a new air force base on Monday to beef up its already formidable air defences, the defence ministry said.
Changi Air Base (East) has a 3-kilometre runway, and is spread over 200 hectares (494 acres) on the Southeast Asian island.
The new facility will provide easier access to the training areas over the South China Sea, and allow the air force to spread planes across more air fields, the ministry said.
Defence Minister Teo Chee Hean said the republic's 145 Squadron - which operates US-built F-16 Fighting Falcons - would use the new site for its base.
'This is the first ....air base facility which we have ourselves entirely designed and developed,' Rear-Adm Teo said in a statement.
The republic's air force already had four main air fields, all of which were inherited from former colonial power Britain.

So 145 SQN is flying F16Ds. Then how about 143 SQN leh? I thought 143 is the one flying the F16Ds.

Singapore recently announced that it is going to upgrade its fleet of Block 52 F-16s, to Block 60 standards.
Singapore is also eyeing new Block 60's as a replacement for its ageing A-4SU Super Skyhawks.
The F-16 Block 60 avionics owe a great deal to the F-22 and Joint Strike Fighter. The new fighter has a completely new cockpit, with three 5 x 7 inch color displays. Behind the displays is a fiber-optic high-speed datalink, a new mission computer based on commercial technology, and a data transfer system using 30-gigabyte cartridges.
In action, the Block 60 displays share the "look and feel" of the F-22. Threats and friendlies, identified by the Northrop Grumman electronic warfare suite, by AWACS or other means, are distinguished by shape and color on the screens. A single button-push creates a "shoot list" on the right-hand attack display, assigning an AMRAAM to the closest targets.
Unlike the basic F-22, though, the Block 60 also creates a "bomb list" for air-to-ground targets or a "jam list" for electronic threats. The APG-80 radar has a variable resolution synthetic aperture radar (VRSAR) mode that allows the pilot to identify aimpoints within a target complex such as a SAM site. Again, single-switch angles allow the pilot to toggle between SAR, EW and infra-red displays.
The F-16 Block 60 is due to fly this year and the first aircraft will be delivered to the UAE in 2004.

143 Sqn had already been long reformed in 2000 to operate F-16C/Ds. 142 Sqn is the only A-4SU Sqn based in Sg.
I believe 145 Sqn had been disbanded for sometime before being reformed to operate the F-16D Blk 52+. Notice all the humps and bumps...jus look too similar to IDF/AF's F-16I.
Btw one of the F-16D 's registration is 666? Now who's gonna fly that? -

There is a photo of the RSAF F16D Block 52+ in the Straits Times, showing the CFTs, dorsal spine, fairings and other bulges for whatever extra stuff that is on that plane. A video clip is available on the Straits Times website.

How come there isn't a FDS in Changi AB. Noticed that in the pic there is a lot of empty land aroundthe runway. probably the HAS are dispersed there lor. But then the AB will limit the expansion of Changi Airport!Originally posted by sbst275:Our AB are hardened
