Do RSAF have "" Python-4 "" missiles ?

  The below is the information from SIPRI database - oct-04.
  
  Recipient: Singapore
  Supplier: Israel
  Weapon designation : Python-4
  Weapon description : BVRAAM
  Year of order: (1997)
  No. ordered: (600)
  Comments: For F-5S and F-16 combat aircraft
  
  No. delivered in 1997: 10
  No. delivered in 1998: 50
  No. delivered in 1999: 100
  No. delivered in 2000: 100
  No. delivered in 2001: 100
  No. delivered in 2002: 100
  No. delivered in 2003: 100
  
  A few interesting " questions" are that –
  
  1. Why 7 years later that the delivery of the " 600 Python-4 " missiles is still not completed.
  
  2. Why is the " Python-4 " missiles are classified as BVRAAM, same class as AMRAAM / Sparrow missiles.
  
  3. Why order " many of the same missiles "?
  
  4. Is this order real in the first place ?
  
  For some time , have been wondering whether is this information accruate or not ?
  
  So any public information to provide or disprovide the existence of the missiles would be welcome .

  Singapore's military is not oriented toward an anti-china position, as some western analysts wrongly interpreted. Firstly, Singapore is not capable of fighting any major power, be it China, France, Russia, or whatever. Secondly, SIngapore's population is mainly chinese, and are not interested in cooperating with the US in containing China. But Singapore IS interested in US presence here to counter, not chinese, but the Islamic majority in this region.

  I believe its quite normal for such an highly expensive and sophistcated weapon to take more than 5 years to complete the full order. AS for why tis a BVRAAM, i have no idea

  I would say Singapore will not stand by if China decides to be an expansionist state and encroach into S.E.Asia.We have a long memory of WW2, and any country that comes here uninvited and bringing oppression and unwelcome overtures will be met with a robust response.

  IMHO, I Rather have a chinese 50% 50% in S.E.A rather then to be sticking out like a sore thumb..with less then 3% Chinese in this Malay Archipelago even up til now..

  Python 4 can loosely be called a BVRAAM because its max range (15-20miles) is, well, beyond what the eye can see. although since BVRAAM usually refers to longer-range stuff like amraam, the word to use is NBVRAAM, for "near-BVR".
  
  the missile works together with the DASH helmet mounted sights in our Vipers. point and shoot!

  that means travelling towards each other...at such at enormous speed
  
  that means the person only have less then 1 minute reaction time to fire

  In a head to head engagement, the pilots have less than 10 s to make a decision, not 1 min.
  
  Why 600? Planes get shot down you know? Attrition, life of the rocket motors etc etc Since you don't want all of the to EOL at the same time, you spread out as far as possible. Especially when you have a solid supplier relationship.
  
  SG and Israel goes back donkey years. Can't say the same about the reliability of the Swedish govt, (not the suppliers fault).

  just wondering... how come our air force has never acknowledged that we purchased python-4 missles? or maybe i did'nt notice their annoucement. But why are we always so 'shy' about buying military equipment. Like the spy satelite thingy a few years back inked with Israel and the Exocet missle inked with the french. It's always classified until some israel or french company accidentally leaked it to AFP or any other news agencies.
  
  i'm sure i saw them on news bulletin somewhere. Correct me if i'm wrong about the satellite, python and the exocet thingy. And recently the harpoon fitted on Fokker 50s which had been classified info for some years until they official release the info this year.

  I think the exocet deal is not really for missile but the design or transfer of technology.

  I wonder what's involved for the satellite? I think NTU is desiging the bus so maybe it's for the remote sensors probably optical and signals too?
