maybe he wearing a flakvest too....u never know.Originally posted by SingaporeTyrannosaur:We use the same helmets as the yanks, the PAGST. Though for some reason, CMPB seems to issue us helmets one size smaller then the yankie standard. Most of us should be using L size, not the M the SAF usually slaps us with. The helmet should cover most of our ears, not leave half exposed as you see in most SAF soldiers.
Grenades kill mainly through frag, not blast, so if you get something to catch all the fragments you have a high chance of surviving, unless the helmet hits you as it is propelled by the blast that is.
last time maybe but in iraq they are short of practically everything...they use plywood and sand to fortify their humvees cos they dun have enough armoured cars to go along...not to say stuff like nvg which the soldiers parents have to fork out $ to buy.....Originally posted by beavan:oh u know americans,he most probably would have been wearing one....they issue everything that they can think of to their soldiers, not like our giam siap SAF![]()
not really leh... last time during ops double hammer, we were issued bullet proof vests also...Originally posted by beavan:oh u know americans,he most probably would have been wearing one....they issue everything that they can think of to their soldiers, not like our giam siap SAF![]()
cracked ribs nothing much really...rib area damn sore..thats for sure....plus not forgetting the difficulty in breathingOriginally posted by ditzy:Wah, cracked ribs still considered minor, must hurt like fking hell man.![]()

If he'd hit the deck next to the helmet instead of on top of it, he probably would have gotten away with fewer injuries. The blast spreads upwards in a conical form.
As for the hardiness of the helmet, a detonator set off inside can knock the top off it.
well, maybe he aiming to get Purple Heart...if u dun get it in Iraq then must wait until long long liaoOriginally posted by Gedanken:Yes, but it would limit the spread of the shrapnel, which was the objective. Landing on top of it was gung-ho, but it was unnecessary.
my thoughts exactly....like last friday's episode of myth busters...they had to cover the other end of the pipe with alot of dirt so that the force of the explosion is directed to the other end...Originally posted by Geforce3:I believe so, but if he didn't lie on top of the helmet, the helmet would have been blown off the nade and he would get more injures?
was it the huge search for the robbers at tekong?Originally posted by TVaddict:not really leh... last time during ops double hammer, we were issued bullet proof vests also...
now is more 'flexible', last time one if u wear it you can't even bend forward much at all.Originally posted by wuming78:was it the huge search for the robbers at tekong?
anyway, for someone who does not usually wear vests during training and exercises, how did it feel?
i would imagine bullet proof vests are more versatile and less restrictive and heavy than flakvests?
Like a breech block in an arti gun..Originally posted by sidestep1984:my thoughts exactly....like last friday's episode of myth busters...they had to cover the other end of the pipe with alot of dirt so that the force of the explosion is directed to the other end...
yeah...force the explosion into the ground rather than upwards and outwards which may endanger his squadOriginally posted by Moonstriker:Like a breech block in an arti gun..![]()
