haha... wat diff does it make?Originally posted by TVaddict:i'm not talking abt spf. i'm talking abt sp, singapore poly... look carefully... it's a big difference u know...
Hmm....you took down a few before over here?
I wonder if the SPF Gurkhas have the same level of competency as the British Army Gurkhas. Just because they come from Nepal doesn't mean they are as skilled. Granted they might have many natural attributes, but how much of those are enhanced by the training makes them the fearsome waririors they are. Perhaps the SPF Gurkhas are all reputation with no real substance like their counterparts in the British Army. [/b]

hmmm....was on the same boat with them on my way for a detail to tekong...Originally posted by zanshin:can anyone here enlighten me to the rank structure of the gurkha contigent in sg?
Saw them doing topo exercise on my recent ICT at lam sam training ground...there was one young ang moh which seems to be their officer and the rest have no ranks on their camo uniform.......they arrive in a police bus.....all were unarmed and only carried maps and water bottles, they left after some 1-2 hours......
overall that particular training seem pretty informal and relax.......
Er...in the first place I dunno why this thread pops up here when there is an SPF forum, but their rank structure follows that of the SPF. Not SAF. However, their establishment dosent seem to move with the times as SPF does. Not only are they still wearing the early generation police uniforms (other then the hat, of coz), they dont seem to be having the intention of abolishing the Constable and LCP ranks in line with the rest of the SPF as well, amongst other things.Originally posted by Devilsmarlin:hmmm....was on the same boat with them on my way for a detail to tekong...
thier ranks are sawn (sorrie for wrong spelling) on their pockets..think thier rank structure are around the same as singapore army cept that think got no staff sgt rank i thin....not too sorrie la....i only saw a sgt and a lcp
The current commander is Bernie Ho. I'm not sure if they've borrowed him from Commandos, or if's he's actually already left the SAF. In any case, it was only the last CO who was a Brit.Originally posted by bcoy:I always had an impression that the Gurkhas are trained and commandered by the British, and trained as infantrymen, but are employed here under the Police Force. Isn't the commander a Brit working for the Singapore Police Force? Beside VIP protection and protection of installations, they do use our training grounds to refresh some of their infantry skills.
