SAF's operational Readiness

Bremob is their Police Mobile Brigade force. More like a police field force for internal security and counter-insurgency. Those equipment are only cater for training/active purposes, ever try a Full Equiping Mobilization before? As for the army, the operation readiness amongst the active units are good too (those who went thru full equip stand by would understand). However, they only a small fraction of our army, as NS (reservist) units still made up of our main fighting force. talking in terms of COMBAT operation readiness.
IMO, the operation readiness of NS units are questionable. I referring more to reaction time and equiping. Think in terms of planning, ind / bn / brigade / div level training & tactics, logistics we are pretty good for a civilian army. We all know the good points so i'll focus only on what i preceived as major weakness impeding our ops readiness.
Equipment:
There's also seem to be in shortage of equipment, always t loan here and there during standby and exercise. Wonder what happens if we start recalling 10 reservist battelion at the same time, not forgeting the brigade and supporting units, division elements. guess $$$, life span and maint. of eqiup will be a concern.
Reaction time:
Think a bit wayang at times. Who here never got prior warning before standby? How soon during war times will only brothers, fathers, mates report back in a timing manner, we will never know i guess.
Nonetheless, these are not unqiue problems, US National guards faced to same problem too. Well, if we compare ourselves against our neighbours, i guess we are still much better * fingers crossed *
Btw, not sure if the refief effort in Aceh is a good reflection of COMBAT operation readiness. They are not eqiuped for full battle order. -
yeah, don't mix up on-loan armskote weapon and Full Mob weapon hor. Those Full Mob weapon are permanently sealed in some dungeon in your unit, only seen the daylight once every few years when there is a full mod. I remember I only touch my personal M-16 carbine (quite surprise I got short barrel rifle). Imagine the whole weapon is weapped in a plastic bag, filled with oil and tar, take at least one whole day to deoil it lay...

Yuppp. .... agree. Seen my weapon and stuff allocation some time ago. It's brand new. Lots of wrapping plastic and grease. On the same subject, about carbine, I was allocated a carbine and pistol. -

And anyone ever thought abt where they gonna get enuff WORKING magazines to fit the bullets in? heh heh heh
(its a joke, don't start to kpkb and give me your ST "we can provide enuff working magazines for each soldier" line or worse still "SAF ONLY PROVIDES MAGAZINES IN GOOD WORKING CONDITION!!!!"...) -

Well, the official spin put out by the regular guys running the camp is that if we are recalled and actual weapons issued, we are all going to be sent to the 100m range (or if crowded to the nearest 25m range) to zero and test fire our weapon.Originally posted by lwflee:*cough* not zeroed *cough*
Needless to say, I just listened and was wondering if it is an actual mobilisation, whether there would be time to do all these. Maybe for some of the private soldiers who have no other preparation to do.... But for the rest of the specs, officers and some of the men, we have planning, stores to load up and whatever nonsense there is. Zero-ing would have to be done in the field.
Apologies to the enemy if we intended to shoot him in the leg but shot him in his ar--se, because of lousy zero-ing !!! -
To be fair to the SAF, the SAR 21 is factory zeroed. Therefore, i imagine the problem with zeroing is not as serious as it was when we were all using M16s.

If your unit is classified as ture standby unit, than all your personal weapon shall zero during your 1st in camp & it store till button press & you shall use the training weapon thru out your reservist life span. yes... I was not a "true" combat standby unit, in a combat support type unit, which will be mobilised most likely in event of hostilities, but there will be some time (at least for the men) but not for the others ... there is a lot of "paperwork"
to handle.
